Why are you atheists?

Because I've realized that deities do not exist. Therefore I am without belief in their existence and hence I am an atheist by default. Besides, every single one of us would be atheists if we hadn't been indoctrinated into religious faith in one way or another. Atheism is our default.

Because nothing matters and so what if it did? You're all going to die some day anyway, and then I'll be alone again; back to the endless nothingness; as it was when I became aware; as it will be when I finally become unaware. Such a very long time between the first light and the final light, how I endure the endless mindless boredom of all this trivial nonsense about what is and isn't, how much; what have You got; what they need; who starves and why the fat get fatter while these animals go extinct and wheres a good place in New York for a capochino; why London's a drag this year and Tuscany is so over done; let's all go to Bali and then Aspen for lunch! Nothing matters, and so what if it did; You; like the rest of Your Mortals; will not be here to see it all dry up and just blow away as cosmic dust into the swirling shimmer of times final wind. Oh well, all the best for a happy new year!

I just don't believe God exists. It doesn't make much sense to me. I feel that if there really was one true God then there would only be one religion followed, but humanity cannot even get which religion is correct. I believe if God does exists, then we are all worshiping him the wrong way. Religion should be a practice for finding inner peace, and should not be forced or heavily influenced upon people. We should not be scared into religion by the promise of Hell for not believing. When I am threatened with Hell it makes me wonder why they feel a need to go to such great lengths. Why would God punish us with Hell, if he's never on Earth to prove he exists, or at the very least, show us which way is the correct way to worship. We have Jews, Muslims, Christians, Catholics, First Baptists, and even within the Christian community they tell us of how wrong the other Christians (Cathollics, etc.) are... And one more reason, I feel that if there really was only one true god, then it would have been so from the beginning of worship, but in the beginning we worshiped many gods, ie. Sun Gods, Volcano Gods, Fire Gods, Zues, Aphrodite, Mercury, Kepher, Re, Thoth, etc. If there is only one god now, it should have been so since the beginning. If you understood how religions were set in place, then you would understand that religion is based on popular belief. Christianity was made strong being forced upon people when their land was taken over (Christianity is strong in the Phillipines because the Spaniards took over, and the Pilgrims forced it on the Native Americans, and this religion was strongly spread during the dark ages). The reason the idea of one god is so strong is because the bible tells us that following all those false gods means going to Hell. So more people followed what they were afraid not to follow. And then Jesus Christ came, and there started Christianity.

Atheism is the ground state. We all start out as atheists. The question is, why aren't YOU an atheist?

2006-12-27 20:14:12 · answer #4 · answered by eri 7 · 4 1

Because I do not believe in a supreme Deity or entity. Because I think the bible is a fairy tale made up by sad, desperate people. Because I know how to think critically and logically. Because I believe in science and evolution. Because I believe religion is a cop out excuse.

I never believed. Atheism wasn't taught to me. I simply grew up as a thinking person.

Something that years of Sunday school lessons couldn't reverse.

It's what you're left as after you ask the sorts of questions theists ask, consider the possible answers they themselves subscribe to, consider the evidence for those answers, and rejecting it as wholly unsatisfactory.

It's also the position we start from - no-one is born believing in god.

If I wasn't an atheist, I would become one after reading your annoying question!

2006-12-27 20:13:03 · answer #8 · answered by Anonymous · 3 1

Because I have never seen sufficient evidence of the existence of god for me to believe.

Because my father use to beat my mother when I was a child, and when I prayed to God for it to stop it never did. As I got older and had questions about those sort of things, I was told you should not question God, you should just follow and accept his word. I decided that wasn't for me, and stopped worshiping God.
