I'm from L.A. and i was wondering how i can get tickets to a nearby dog show. I really want to attend one before i get a dog so i can talk to some of the breeders, and just so i can watch the dogs. Can any of you help a girl out? Please and thank you! =D

As far as I know dog shows are open to the public, though there probably is an entrance fee. Some are probably more difficult to get into because they are very popular, like AKC, Westminster, etc. Show dogs are bred for their looks and how closely they meet the breed standards, rather than their personality. Here in Chicagoland there is a pet fair each year at the race track. There are breeders there as well as rescue groups and mixed breeds. I think you would have a better chance of talking to people there because they aren't so busy getting their dogs ready to show. I would suggest that before you go, do some homework: Is size a consideration? Do you want a dog you can run and play with, or just sit on the couch and snuggle? Do you have other pets? When I was doing Greyhound rescue we had to consider if the prospective owner had cats or small animals, for example. Do you want an energetic dog that would need a fenced yard? Who is going to take the responsibility for caring for it, and how busy are they. I wouldn't want to see a Great Dane crated all day while people went to work.
Watch your local newspapers. Visit shelters and rescue groups. They can give you a lot of information on dogs and breeds. And if all else fails, there is the internet.

I agree w previous poster about checking out the AKC's occasion internet site And all televised shows are with the aid of invitation handiest. It is traditionally like the top 20 in every breed by means of elements (collected through enormous specialing showing a Champion) On a notice, for those who didn't get your dog from a conformation show breeder, you're going to surely be losing your time/cash/satisfaction. It is a very real probability your canine might be disqualified, so please assess that your canine may not be faulted in that method before you enter (the AKC breed description could have a record at the backside of disqualifiers). AND there'll obviously be anybody inside your breed who will (optimistically effectively) mean you can understand that your canine isn't a show best dog. In the event you did get your dog by means of a best breeder, then as a best breeder they did not promote you a exhibit dog without being willing to mentor you or help you to find any one who will. Please understand what you are doing earlier than you step into the ring or you're going to distract all of the different dogs within the ring. BTW- despite the fact that your canine is just not conformation show nice, which you can nonetheless show in obedience/agility/flyball, and many others! HTH!

I am sorry, but you just missed the big AKC/Eukanuba National Championships in Long Beach, California. It was December 2-3, 2006, and a very exciting weekend! It will be back to Long Beach for 2007, at the Long Beach Convention Center.
Had you gone, you could have met every breed the AKC recognizes at the annual Meet The Breeds. There are representatives from each club with their dogs there and it is very informative. You can watch the dog show, agility, and, my favorite, the obedience competitions, for a great admissions price.
You could have seen my golden retriever, shown above, take fifth place in the AKC National Obedience Invitational Championships. That was pretty amazing. I was sooo proud:)
There are plenty of other shows, so just watch the AKC website for updates on upcoming shows and events.

Good for you for researching the perfect breed for you!!

Most all shows you juts go to the arena on the show day and pay the admission fee and go in,
They usually do not sell advance tickets for dog shows unless it is like Westminister or Euknuba Cup or some big time show.
Good luck the shows can be lots of fun and a great place to get info on a breed you may be interested in.

You don't usually have to have tickets to attend a dog show. You simply go and pay a nominal spectator fee..that's it.

Go to akc.org and go to events once there go to event search and put in conformation + your state and all shows will come up. You do not have to purchase tickets in advance.

You go, pay at the door, or gate, and go in. Simple.
It is not like a concert or anything.
