I don't think that ANYONE should enter anyone else's country freely. Everyone should need a passport. Want to go to Mexico---Passport. Want to go to Canada---Passport. And don't tell me about the people who live near the border and have family and like to shop,...blah blah blah. I grew up on the border and I now live along the border, and I tell you what you can't buy junk here or there that is any different with Wal-mart everywhere nowadays. And, as for your family,---just call them. You save a lot of time and gas and really,..how many times can you stand seeing your extended family anyway?
For the one who mentioned Canada: A lot of Europeans and Asians like to enter into the U.S. illegally through Canada,..and even though the Canada U.S. border is a lot colder and more rugged in places the the U.S. Mexico border drugs do come in all the time as well.

we should have shut down immigration to the usa a way long time ago and paid attention to our own people's problems. i want to see a taxpaying american be able to land a low interest loan to open up virtual chains of 7-11s, dunkin' donuts, white hens, taxi cab fleets and the like. but if you, an american, want a loan to open a business, you are going to have to jump through hoops to get it, and you will have to pay normal interest on it. therefore, where can you put your profits other than in raising your family? you sure won't be able to buy new businesses the way immigrants who never did pay taxes here do today.
canadanians seem quite content living where they do. i don't see them emigrating here, so i don't know where you got that idea.
actually, if you think of what hugo chavez is doing down in venezuela and south america, you are going to start to hope that mexico and canada as well as central american and any countries located in south america that we can get to go along with us form an alliance that is against the insane self-exploding people of certain sects of islam in order to form one united front, here, on this hemisphere.
read george orwell's book called "1984."

We do have an open border policy with Canada, and there are reasons for it, and a stricter policy with Mexico, and there are more reasons at to why them and not Canada. Things will change when passports are required. But its going to open a whole can of worms.

I think we have a right to choose what countries we allow free pass into our country. But everyone should come into this country legally.

So suddenly there's a problem with Canadians entering illegally now? When did this start...I haven't seen an influx of deranged Canadians running for the border.
