Americans are joining up out of Patriotism? Who we kidding?
At begining of Gulf War II over 23,000 of the invasion forces were non-uus citizens in our military that figure has increased so that today over 43,000 are non US citiznes and are either not wanting citizenship or are still trying to decide if they do.
Recruiters have an office in Tijuajuana Mexcio. Mexico City, El Salador and Columbia.
In fact the most highly decorated Bronze and siver star units is the one from El Salvador.
the governetn has had to pass legislation making it illegal to refuse the military recruiters access to all school records and with profiling they find the most vulnerable groupings to recruit.
The government has had to raise pay levels and bonus of up to 30,000 dollars, over 6 years, re-enlistment. they upped the pay to military wives for marrying a GI. the quickness in gaining rank depends upon going to Iraq or Afghanistan with one or two stripe or pay grades possible for just one tour.
Yet they still struggle to find enough good patriotic Americans to join in OUR WAR ON "oops" FOR DEMOCRACY.
Our mercenarys contractors can not be tried by iraquis or US for crimes agains tHumanity and are well paid to do just that. Wave the Plastic Fglags made in China and if you get enough maybe the truth of our Patrtiotism can be hid.

It really is a complex answer that depends on a lot of conditions. The biggest attraction is the money for a lot of recruits. The military pays considerable enlistment bonuses, training bonuses, and college funding. In most cases, a young persons total college expense is paid by the military in addition to providing living expense money. To someone that has nothing, it is a worthy gamble. It's like the problem with prison. If you live in an old ghetto, a new prison cell with three meals a day and free medical isn't much of a deterrent.

Intense patriotism is another big reason. It is also fueled by ancestry. A lot of soldiers have a family member that they respect that was also in the military and even served in a war.

Recruiters are also very very good at sugar coating the whole military experience during their hard sell. However, noone goes into the military without signing the papers themselves.

Well, there are the men and women that really want to serve in the military and join without hesitation. There are also others that are looking for a solution for their life and after consideration will join the military. They offer very good enlistment bonuses for certain jobs and high asvab test scores. My husband joined the army in July and received an enlistment bonus of $30,000.
People join because they want to. Some of the benefits the military branches offer are well above any benefits you could get from an average joe job in small-town america. In exchange for your service, they take care of you and your family. I love being an army family!

I worked with recruiters in the us army for about 3 months to see what it was like. Biggest reason that lots of them said, was i want to defend our country, and improve myself while in the military. Their are lots of benefits to joining the military services anything from health care, college, getting into a career, that requires some military experience.

just because you join the military (whatever branch) there is no guarantee that you are going to war. You can be a doctor, dentist, computer tech, mechanic, fuel truck driver, have a desk job, cook, etc.

Also, many people (unfortunatly) only join the military to get money for college and for benifits

Because, believe it or not, there are some Americans who have a sense of duty to their country. They are not self-centered, self-absorbed, kool-aid drinking, morally deficient, nit wits.

Oooh, beware of those wily recruiters!!! They might trick you into enlisting!! What a bunch of crap! You should be on your knees thanking every one of them for enlisting. They enable some you to sit back at home to *****, moan, and whine incessantly!

The biggest attraction is money?? Says who?

Some people are "patriotic"? I can here the disdain and condesention in your voice Debra G. Maybe some people are just PATRIOTIC!!! You twit!

Recruiter do make promises, promises and even more promises. Not any that they really can guarantee or are going to be met.

1. Recruiters are very persistent and persuasive
2. Some people are very "patriotic" and they think this is the way to show it.
3. Some people have no other economic options.
4. Some people like to play with guns and play "war."

All they need is Rush Limbah and Fox News on the air and people go rushing down to sign up. The right wing media is so full of lies, it's scary.
Maybe it's the incredible bonuses? Please don't criticize our military. It's not their fault that we have the worst president in our history.

I wonder if Bush will not only take the Bush family name down in infamy, but also many prominent Republicans with him.
