I have to move to another country out of USA starting next week and I am in a desperate situation to sell my car. But I did not have the title of certification and and lost my registration. Is it possible to sell the car to the dealer? Is it illegal to sell one's car to somebody without title of certifiication?

You can be issued a duplicate title of certification and registration. No dealer will want the car if you can't prove ownership.

I'm speaking in regards to if this situation took place in California. You didn't mention where you are however the process should basically be the same. You shouldn't need the registration to sell the vehicle. However having the title will make it much easier. You can go to the DMV and get a Request for Duplicate Title. Once you complete this and submit it to the DMV they will issue you a duplicate title. However, you will probably not get a title before next week when you leave. Regarding a dealer, it all depends on how much they trust you.

You will have to find someone to handle your affairs here in the state and have them file for a lost title. One thing you could do is give the buyer the car they give you the money you fill out the paperwork for lost title before you leave. Have the papers sent to them. when they get them they send them to you to be signed and then returned.
It is a complicated way but the only legal way I know of
Actually you could get a specific power of attorney so that the person who has the Power of attorney could handle the the car business for you but again it need to be a specific one.

You can get a duplicate title at the DMV. Many states have a "quick title" procudure for an additional fee.

You can't sell a car without a title. You can't even junk it without one.

So...what you're saying is that you have NO paperwork whatsoever on the car?

Without a title, the new owner can't register the car, so it my guess that unless you find someone that just fell off of the turnip truck, no one will buy the car, certainly not a dealer unless he can trace the paperwork back to your name.

You can take it to a chop shop, they may give you $100....

You can go to any department of motor vehicles and fill out a title replacement form. As long as you were the last one to have that vehicle registered they will issue you a new title on the spot.
