Actually, this really depends on what language you speak. For someone who speaks Korean, it is very easy to learn Turkish and Japanese, because they are similar, but a language like French is more difficult. For a speaker of Italian, French is much easier than Japanese.

Because I know English, I'll say that these are the most difficult languages for English-speakers (in random order):
1. Chinese
2. Arabic
3. Japanese
4. Hindi/Urdu
5. Russian

Mandarin Chinese. Pronounciation is very, very difficult. The second is English because the total number of words in the language is much larger than any other. Because of the computer age, 200,000 words have been added to the English vocabulary, which now consists of 500,000 words, including slang. In comparison, only French and Spanish have 150,000 and German may have less.

Hey Louis: We have 26 ltrs not 24 in the English alphabet. Sorry.

I supposed everybody who answered here have learnt and mastered all the languages in the world to be able to make such wise decisions.

Really, how do you know which is the most difficult language to learn in the world when most people only speak 1 or 2 languages? Hearsay? A sudden enlightenment when meditating?

English. It is a mixture of many languages and has a lot of exceptions and rules to follow. eg. rose, rose, and rose. Each pronounced the same, spelled the same, and each with a different meaning. How about 1 goose and many geese, but 1 moose and many moose. Can you imagine trying to learn English as a second language proficiently? Certainly, English must be the most difficult.

Depends, the language(s) you know can determine how fast and how well you learn another language. For example, it is probably easier for someone who knows Spanish to learn Italian much quicker as opposed to someone who doesn't since Spanish and Italian share many similarities. Also, it can depend on a persons capability and will to learn a language. Lastly, the age at which you attempt to learn another language.

The English language is the hardest to learn because of pronunciation of a word is different than how it is spelt, words that sound the same are spelt differently and mean different things, most letters of the alphabet have more than one sound, etc.,etc.
