The Catholic church originated in around 107 AD. in 140-200 AD The CATHOLIC CHURCH were in slow agreement on what is _canon_ what is to be included in YOUR bible....which books are to make up the new testament and which should be kept out.
Thank the catholic church for the book you worship.

in about 100 AD Paul's letters were collected into a little book....
if it weren't for the Catholic Church, you wouldn't be delving into and analyzing the Old Testament (Jewish Law) like you do.

Although i do disagree historically with your statement of who and when the catholic church was begun ( i believe very strongly that it was with Peter, and was officially begun at Pentacost and grew from there (( although Ignatious was a great Doctor of the Church))
You do have it correct about the Catholic church assembling the Bible. They assembled the New Testament document according to what was truth taught by Jesus and non-heretical (aka the gnostic gospels of Judas, Phillip, and Thomas), The official Hebrew Scriptures were not put together by the Hebrews until well after Jesus's death, in order to quelch the Christian sect that had sprung up, they did away with many of the messianic prophecies and set rules of that the books that they compiled had to be written in Hebrew (not Greek, Aramaic or other), had to be ap. 500 years old or more, and many other scrupulous rules. The Old Testament for Christians was assembled at the same time as the New Testament (the 300's) by the same group, (sorry, cant remember the name of the Council of Bishops off the top of my head,...Nicea?). This was issued by Constantine, a convert to Christianity (he did not create it or make up Jesus, he was actually pagan converted to Christianity!) who wanted to make everything a little more organized, in order that people did not get the heretical message as opposed to the true one. The Old Testament was chosen mostly on the basis of which scriptures where used by the Hebrews in Palistine at the time of Christ and which ones He quoted.
That is a very short summary just of the top of my head, but isn't it amazing how people just don't know, or want to know where thier religion originated? Protestants and conspiracy theorists are some of the most ignorant on the subject, just because they don't wish to do historical research (and would rather just find the sources that support themselves!) ....silly gnostics.....
(oh, and we Christians don't worship the book, we worship God)
Sorry so long, i tried to make it as short as possibe!

Maybe you don't realize that Protestants' Bibles are different form Catholic Bibles? Sure, most of the books in both Bibles are the same but the Protestants have rejected some, e.g the book of Maccabees.
And yes, Protestants respect the EARLY church fathers. Some of them were martyrs!! Then the Catholic church became corrupted and began to persecute the true Christians. You have heard of the Inquisition? That institution was set up to persecute Christians.
Go, study some more church history.

Thirty-nine of the books in the Bible are based on the Tanakh -- though in a different order and different titling; but essentially unchanged.
And you claim the "Catholic" church came before the Hebrew Bible??
The Universal Church did not "compile" it; they did "debate" and discuss and determine which books were already recognized as Scripture.
At key points in early church history, church leaders met and tested the writings to determine which should be considered truly authoritative.
These books came to be called canonical, from the Greek word for a measuring stick (kanon); they later became what we today know as the Bible.
The ROMAN Catholic Church at and after the Council of Trent did decide to admit the Greek Canon (books of the Septuagint).

The Christian Church was founded in Jerusalem and because of persecution Christianity spread throughout the entire known world at that time.
70 men over a certain period of time decided what books were to be allowed in the Bible. It was called the Spetagunt which means 70.
The Catholic Church as far as I know had nothing to do with the so called cannon that you are talking about!

What difference does it make that the Catholic Church compiled the books of the Bible or existed before then?
Is the Catholic Church not part of Christendom?

Maybe it would have been better if they encouraged us to read all that was written. I don't remember Jesus saying anything about unsacred text. Maybe it would have been better if they had faith that God would show people the way and the light if they invited Him and weren't so enslaved by these text. His word is in our heart. You do know that not all who read the bible are seeking God anyway. Also you do know that the church did not allow translations that common people could read until Martin Luther and they branded Him a heretic.

The Catholic Church did not "compile" the Bible. Rather, they HID it. Don't believe everything your censors tell you.
"For HE who knew NO sin was made to become SIN FOR YOU, that you might become the righteousness of GOD IN HIM" - Galations 2:20
You CAN have a new life, and NOW.

Your wrong, but even if you were right do you have the right to call me, a Southern Baptist ignorant? I can go straight to God in prayer I do not need a priest or confession to intercede on my behalf.Apparantly you should have consulted someone before spouting off and embarassing your catholic brothers and sisters.

the true knowledge comes from within has nothing to do with a book. Only through complete acceptance can you become understanding. It has nothing to do with what is written but that it was written in inspiration. You only gain true knowledge when you accepted him for the right reasons and not out of fear or wanting some material trinket.
