First, get a checkup done by your doctor to make sure you don't have any physical reason like underactive thyroid making it more difficult for you to lose weight, but in the meantime, eat a good nutritious breakfast (something with lots of protein and fiber) that will help you get your day started well and won't wear off quickly. During the day, I know when you're at school, you'll have a certain time you are given to eat, but try to eat only when you are hungry, and then eat SLOWLY. Your brain takes 20 minutes to get the signal from your stomach that you are full! Make smart choices if you can from your school's offerings, or pack your own lunch. When you're not in school, don't deny yourself a food you are craving--it just makes you crave it more, so go ahead and eat it, just remember to eat just a little, and eat it slowly! Dinnertime is the same, just because the clock says it's dinnertime, doesn't mean you have to eat. Let your stomach guide your eating, not the clock when you can. As for the junk food, again, no food is completely off limits, but you must control how much you eat of it, and one way to do this is to put the junk food out in your parent's car, or someplace that if you REALLY want it, you have to make an extra effort to get it. This will help you if the junk food isn't right there for you to eat. Lastly, exercise is of course, important. Find an exercise you enjoy, like swimming, bike riding, whatever turns you on and do it for at least 20 minutes a day. Even a brisk walk will get your metabolism working better for you, and you'll be surprised that exercise actually gives you a good feeling because of your brain will send out hormones that make you feel really good, and also make you not feel hungry. Don't be in a hurry, if you can lose 1-2lbs/week, in 6 months, thats 24-48 pounds lost, and THAT'S a LOT! Good luck in trying to lose weight and keep yourself more healthy!

Size 12 isn't overweight medically, but maybe it would be good to focus on being healthy rather than losing weight. Try going for walks, or get an exercise video. Try making sure you eat 5 portions of fruit and veg a day. You don't have to give up chocolate, just limit it. At your age, there is still a lot of change happening in your body and it might just even out. Maybe your parents could afford to send you to a YMCA as they run lots of teenage sport clubs. I know how horrible and out of control your body (and your whole life too!) feels at 13, but I did the unwise thing and ended up with anorexia. It really doesn't solve any problems, in fact it creates more. No matter what they tell you in magazines, thin and bony doesn't make you happy!! But being healthy helps a lot!! Drink plenty water too. That helps everything to keep running smoothly. All the best.

food is basically fuel for the body if you are not burning off what you are putting in then you will gain weight the trick is to count calories and exercise accordingly i started weight watchers in march and have lost 42 lbs but have been swimming 20 lenghts every morning and going to gym 3 times a week but this has enabled me to have the occasional burger or tub of ben & jerry's - weight watchers do a programme for younger people and the support is great

I've lost a stone since March, have not dieted, simply got a pedometer. It's an Omron HJ 113, electronic (not one of those pendulum ones you fix to your waist which are not accurate) I started off aiming for 6,000 steps a day, worked my way up to 12,000 a day. At home you can run up and down stairs, put on some music and dance (my favourite!) hoovering, sweeping, anything you do normally, just work a few extra steps into it. Here's a good website for info and encouragement

Attatch an insainly annoying noise maker(like a squeeky toy, or rattle, or even a wind chime) to every door in your kitchen that leads to food (like the fridge and pantry).
It keeps you from eating when you're bored, or not hungry.

Take time once a 7 days to plan out and search for meals and snacks so you're prepared whenever hunger strikes.
