yes thats normal...sometimes cats go after things in the air such as dust....things that we may not be able to see... or may he is bored and trying to have fun.....

my cat will sit on her hind legs and bat at things in the air even though i dont see anything....

i do know that cats love to be above everything so if you have something that your cat is trying to get on like a shelf or something thats another reason.... but cats like to be off the floor and looking over everything

It's normal-he is combining a normal cat behavior-scratching-with exercise. Sounds like he needs more play time. You can also try attaching a carpet remnant to a wooden dowel and hanging that where he likes to scratch-then he has an appropriate surface to perform his instinctual behavior on.
Spraying cats with water only makes them angry and fearful, and causes them to associate you with bad things

Ours does that all the time to burn off energy, he does it to the wall and to the doorways. Sometimes he stares at the fire alarm on the wall and one of these days I'm hoping it doesn't bring the fire trucks and a big fine!

We have a kitty condo tree he loves to climb - that would be a wise investment and lots of toys and things to play with.

Cats do crazy things like that. Try spraying him with water or moving him as long as he is not after a bug, a shadow or something else that he sees that should stop him from doing it. I had a cat that would climb door frames and he just stopped doing it on his own nothing else seemed to work.

Aren't they crazy? My cats are total shadow boxers. Have some fun, use a penlight and "write" on the wall with it.

Your cat sounds like mine. They like to climb halfway up a wall to practice climbing, since mine are indoor cats only, so no tree to do their natural climbing exercises on.

i think that it is ok and the cat just wants to have fun so leave the cat alone when he does that and it is normal

Sounds pretty normal for a cat, they can be silly sometimes. If you don't want him to do it, spray him with water or just pick him up and move him.

There's a bug up there he's trying to catch... or a spot of light... or a moving shadow.
