It seems like denstists are just trying to use their patients to help them pay for their mortgages and Porches.
I used to go to the dentist once or twice a year, and they supposedly found at least one cavity every time i showed up and proceeded to drill holes in my perfectly good teeth and fill them full of mercury. I never once saw a single cavity in any of my teeth, and never ever had a tooth ache. I have not been to a dentist in at least 15 years and magically, i don't have any cavities. I think fillings do more damage than good, especially when there aren't even any cavities in the teeth.

I just think that routine teeth maintenance should be something you can do at home, or from a lower cost professional, not under the direction of a dentist who has ulterior motives. Teeth are pretty basic things.. 32 bits of bone that are easy to reach. Well, more like 24 bits of bone and a few grams of mercury.

Gargle with hydrogen peroxide every day and you'll never have to see a dentist. Your gums won't recede either.

By the time you can see or feel a cavity it is a large cavity. One that usually will need more then a simple filling to repair. By the time you have a tooth ache, you have a problem. The same can be said about gum disease. By the time it hurts, the disease is well progressed. The point of going 2times a year is 1) to detect problems early. 2) to remove hardened deposits from you teeth that can't be brushed off. You may think you don't have a cavity, but you might. If you don't think you have a cavity, seek a second opinion. or even a third. Legally the dentists have to send your xrays to another dentist on your request. You could also try going to a dental or dental hygiene school. There are now tooth colored fillings that have no mercury, but there is still a big debate as to whether silver fillings are a problem.

You need to see the dentist twice a year so you can catch any gum or teeth problems right away to correct them. Dentists do not fill perfectly good teeth and you cannot always see a cavity nor do they always cause pain. If you really know for a fact that a dentist did drilling where there was no cavity you should have reported him to your states medical examining board so he would be disciplined properly. In case you haven't followed the news lately poor dental hygiene is also linked to increased heart disease.

ummmm....first of all, teeth are not made of bone, so if you really want to slam on professionals, I suggest doing your research! Anyway, even if you are not prone to cavities, you should still go to the dentist to have your teeth professionally cleaned every 6 months. As we get older, we run more risk of gum disease. All the time, plaque is accumulating on your teeth. Proper toothbrushing and flossing can remove alot of this plaque, however; there are places your toothbrush and floss just cannot reach! After a while, this unremoved plaque can calcify and turn into a very hard substance called calculus. This calculus has to be mechanically removed by a licensed dental professional (either a dentist or the dental hygienist). It typically is underneath the gumline and is much to hard for floss to remove. My advise is to find a dental office you trust, or maybe that another friend or family member goes to and listen to what they have to say....they are not all out to get you!

Your teeth are important. Find another dentist. Your experience was a bad one but truthfully a lot of the progress in health care can be attributed to better oral care. If your teeth are bad the poison leeks into your system all the time. It can affect your heart and blood stream. People may actually living longer right now because of better (and less painful) dentistry.
So do not lump all dentist in the same clump. Basketball players and foot ball players are better or worse... Math teachers and cooks can have bad days... even doctors have malpractice insurance... You just had a long term relationship with a dead beat. Go out and find a good one now! They are out there.

I think it was more just the dentist that you were going too. I have gone to the dentist ever 6 months for my whole life and did not have my first cavity until I was 21 and have never had one since.
