I always see pharmacist telling their helpers what to do and what to tell the patients, so my question is what do they do?

I talk all day to patients, doctor's offices, insurance companties, corporate, and sales reps in that order.

With my veteran technicians I never 'tell them what to do'......they already know. Only occasionally will they hit a novel situation, or encounter a legal question.

Technicians can answer some questions for patients, but most must be handled by me directly. It's the law.

Pharmacist do all the hard work. They check everything that leaves the pharmacy to make sure no mistakes are made. They also make sure doctors have not mixed medications that could be harmful to the patient. They have to know all the medications on the market and which ones can't be combined. They keep track of all the med counts etc. They make sure chemo meds are mixed properly. They are the ones who get their @ chewed out if a mistake is made with medications, not the doctor. The pharm tech works under their license, so that is a major responsibility also. So, I'm pretty sure talking is not something they have a lot of time to do...

The techs do the brunt work, and the pharmacists supervise, and make sure the work is done properly. At my store, I am the head tech, and I do most of the work, and the pharmacists check that prescriptions are typed in correctly and filled correctly. The techs take care of filling, managing stock, and whatever else the pharmacist does not want to do. Pharmacists are also used to answer questions. But I feel they are overpaid for what they actually do.

My pharmacist sometimes tells us what to tell the patient. That is actually illegal. Us techs are not allowed to do consultation with patients. I am a tech and I fill prescriptions and my boss checks them for me. That is what they pretty much do.

they fill your percriptions and make sure no mistakes are made.they type in your name on scrips and put the refills down...also a pharmacist will answer any questions you might need to ask them and they are really smart when it comes to medications, warnings, and how it affects the body...They do the hard stuff. They order meds also. The bulk of everything falls on their shoulders, they have to be very careful, since they are holding your health in their hands.....................
