VERY INTELLIGENT QUESTION. There are so-called Christians who actually use that as a way to denounce evolution. They say "the Word of God states that this world is 6000 years old and it began with Adam and Eve". Oh, boy. Bible illiteracy runs rampant in this country. The Bible DOES NOT STATE THAT THIS EARTH IS 6000 YEARS OLD. It is not written. period. Genesis 1:1 - "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." (period). Now when did it say He did that? It doesn't - just "in the beginning". There is an entire age contained within that. The Scriptures state that this world is billions and billions of years old, and that in fact there was an entire age before this one. When you read the description of God fixing up the earth in Genesis, It was not the original creation of it - Satan had rebelled in the age that was, you know- where he wanted to sit on the throne reserved for Christ, and rebelled, and drew one third of the children with him? God destroyed the age that was, and brought in this one, so that to be fair, each person would come through woman and be born to flesh, each to make up his own mind whether he will follow satan or God. In Genesis, God told them to go and be fruitful and replenish the earth - REplenish, because it had been plenished before. Yes, people laugh at christians who say the earth is 6000 year old, and you know what? they should laugh, because its ridiculous - they obviously do not know Scripture, and so they would do the rest of us a favor by just keeping their mouths shut.
If you want to read of the three earth ages, check out second Peter, i believe chapter 3.

No church said it. thats not the problem. Some Christian fools have made what they refer to as Creation Science a field of study, and it is they would propound a young age for the earth.
The Vatican, of course, does nothing to stop the spread of lies and deciet either, so they are guilty by association. You'd at least think they would write a letter stating that they dont beleive that crap - but instead they stay silent. Which is tantamount to agreeing with the position.

ANYONE who claims that the earth is only 6000 years old is either ignorant or stupid. That kind of jargon comes from religious people FORCING religion to match their lives and surroundings because they are unable/incapable of logic and understanding.

It is not my church first off. I think it is the Mormons. They trace the popes to Jesus, from there every one is related back to Abraham, supposedly that goes back to Adam and Eve, and the hole 7 days thing.

Genesis 1:1-3
God created the earth (barak - made from nothing)
God "recreated" the earth (restructured on the old chassis)
The "original" earth, no one knows how old this earth is
the remodeled earth is approx. 6000 years old.
A new earth will be created at the end of time.
