I'm assuming you are referring to the TV broadcasting format NTSC (National Television Systems Committee) not NTCS.

NTSC is a format used to transmit analog video signals to a television box. Data is transmitted at a framerate of 29.97 frames per second and each frame contains 525 lines.

PAL is the competing format for video broadcasting and it uses 625 lines by comparison. PAL has the higher picture quality of the two formats.

NTSC is currently in use in Canada, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, the United States, and some other countries, mostly in the Americas, while the rest of the world uses PAL or is switching to it.

Analog TV is being slowly phased out to introduce HD TV which uses a higher quality digital signal to produce audio and video.
