how do i go about smudging a room?

i have been bought a gift of a smudging stick form a friend for the new apt i have moved into what exactly do i do and how do i use it? are there any chants or anythting i should say?

If you're following a certain pantheon then you'd ask for protection from whatever pantheon you believe in, if it's Native American spirituality then you go according to tribal custom.

What you do is light your smudge bundle and waft it (smoke) with a blessed feather (something you can do yourself) and go to the 4 corners of each room and outside your domicile (if you can and it's not an apt.) praying that the areas be cleared of any/all negative energies and evil intending spirits, again according to the pantheon you subscribe to.

You can also smudge yourself and others as well if you feel you/they need it and they've requested it.

Chants are the most meaningful and powerful when you write them yourself. Personally, when I smudge, I sweep my home to do away with negative energy, anoint the areas with salt water, then begin to smudge and chant. A purification bath always helps too.
