I'm currently deciding on which OS I should buy and I've been hyped up for windows media center edition so badly. The only good it would do for me is connect to my xbox 360. Is there any other good uses of it? because that's all I'm thinking. Do you think I should just forget about it and get xp home? What is so special about it? Does it burn CD/DVDs better or something?

I wouldn't be able to live without my Media Center Edition, but that's only because I have a TV Tuner and remote. Without a Tuner, it's probably not worth it, because its functionality isn't that much greater than other programs, and it's oversimplified (for use with a remote). It's nothing special when it comes to listening to CDs or burning discs: it's just easy and looks pretty.

So, I'd say you don't need it, but if you can shell out the bit extra for a TV tuner, then TV, PC, and XBOX everything will work beautifully together.

Windows media center edition has just a slightly different interface than home edition and has support for TV, remote and other media devices. If you are using your computer for basic uses, then you should be just fine with home edition.
