The meaning of the word Martyr is this: 1) a person who is put to death for refusing to renounce a faith or belief.

There have been followers of Jesus who suffered and were put to death because they refused to renounce Him as their Lord and Savior. These people are in Heaven now with Jesus ...... those who put them to death might of killed their bodies, but they couldn't win in the end because in the end their souls were with Jesus and there is no greater reward than to enter into the gates of heaven and be with our Lord and Savior Jesus.

Someone who dies for a cause...a good cause. Who puts the desires of the world above his/her own desires for the betterment of mankind. The late Pres. Geral Ford did just this...risking his career by pardoning Pres. Nixon and losing it just to heal the country when healing was much needed. History has proved he made the right decision.

generally speaking, a martyr is defined as a person who suffers death in the name of his or her faith, or who suffers death for refusing to renounce one's faith.

this act of martyrdom is usually lauded by survivors of the martyr's religious community, and may cause the individual to become a celebrated or honored figure. for example, a saint.
