Our church has to pay our national organization $72 per member per year. The money supports nation-wide programs. We also pay our minister, our light bill, the gas bill and the postage meter bill. We have never turned anyone away because they were poor, but all of our members at the moment make sure we at least break even on them.
People can be "friends" - they don't get to vote in our meetings - and we don't pay the $72 for them.
At the start of the fiscal year everyone tells us how much they can donate in the upcoming year, and we plan our budget accordingly. That amount is called a "Pledge", not a membership fee.
You can donate time to a church instead of money, if you have a talent they can use, like window washing, lawn mowing, web site editing, financial auditing, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, playing an instrument . . .

You never have to pay any kind of membership fee to go to church and any church that would even try to make you pay such a fee is not a real church of God at all.
The only Fee you ever have to pay to be a born again child of is to confess any wrong doings and turn from them and take Jesus as your Lord and Savior and know that in doing this you are bought and paid for by the blood of our wonderful Lord Jesus Christ.
God Bless you always

Tithing was a continual duty, set forth by God, and the Apostles used it to aid the Church in its growth, and providing for the less fortunate, in need.
However, then there are offerings. Which is something you give additional than your tithings of 10%. But, offering are from the heart.
Paul said that those the preach of the gosple, must live of the gospel.
But some have taken the word of and changed it to off.

There is no membership fee. I do give my weekly tithing but that is because I want to, I can afford to and God wants us to help others. Churches will never turn someone away because of finances.

You do not have to pay a membership fee at a real church.
Most churches encourage tithing, but it is not even close to mandatory.

Every church that I have been to did not have membership fees but people were expected to give offerings weekly. If you can not afford to donate, that is fine though. Churches actually belong to God and all people are invited and welcome regardless of any monetary issues.

When you attend the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, you are never pressured to give money, and we have never used collection plates. Our elders are not paid. They work secular jobs to support themselves and their families. Our places of worship are built by the congregation and not by hired contractors, thereby putting no unecessary financial burden on the brothers and sisters. All donations are voluntary and each person gives what they are able to give. God loves a cheerful giver, not someone who feels they are being forced to give a certain percentage to the congregation.
