i brought my dog home to my parents' home for the holidays... it's a place she has been 100s of times before. about three days ago for the first time she has started going upstairs on her own and sitting on the top step waiting for us... i guess to go to bed. she'll start doing this as early as 3pm. if we don't follow her she'll start to bark for us to follow her or, after an hour, she'll begrudgingly come down and try to herd us upstairs with her. if we do go up, she runs into bed and curls up and gets mad if any of us leaves. she absolutely refuses to sit with us in the living room... even though all of her treats and toys are here. she doesn't come when we call her. if we carry her down, she'll run away as soon as we don't hold her back. we don't know what to make of this. she is usually a really social lap dog... so it's odd for her to not stay with the family in the living room. the only thing that is different is that my live-in boyfriend isn't here.

it could b because ur friend isn't there but it sounds more like there is something or someone or a smell in the room or down stairs that she just doesn't like.

You should buy a "baby fence" or something that you can put at the bottem if it is a small or meidium dog.

If it is a large one,or somthing that can jump high, put one up, but train it every day too.
----If it is a pitbull, don't put the fence up, just train him. Thay can learn to jump-witch is NOT a good thing.

GOOD LUCK!!!

you dog is suffering ex-boyfriend withdrawals, just re-inforce the notion that your dog is yours by the way you treat it and it will be over this in a few weeks, or your dog is wanting you to look for something your not seeing
