Over the counter I would suggest Unisom. There are not really any bad side effects.
Prescription I would suggest Ambien CR. I get told all the time that is excellent and extremely helpful.
Make sure that if you take anything to influence sleep that you don't consume alcohol, operate heavy machinery or drive until you know how it will effect you.

Go to a Health Food store, organic completely (preferably). Ask for some guidance to sleep medication. I used to have difficulty sleeping and I had tried a few things from a store like that and I had little to no side actives during the day and it really just helped me overall, nothing bad at all.

Non- prescription, I recommend Valerian Tea- strong. Drink just before bedtime. Prescription- I highly recommend Lunesta. I have taken it on and off for several months, and it works great with no carry over effects at all. The only thing is that it leaves a slight funny taste in your mouth for a few hours after you wake up, but no sleepiness at all!

Melatonin works for me. You can find it in the vitamin aisle. No sluggish feeling the next morning like I've experienced with other OTC sleep aids.
