I can eat small amounts without getting deathly ill. I love peanuts and it's hard to find really good candy and such that doesn't contain nuts of some sort. I can eat a small amount of peanut products without getting deathly ill but I do still get sick and usually have to take at least a couple of tylenol to help with the killer headache I get. My wife wants me to stop eating that stuff alltogether because she thinks it's going to harm me in the long run or that one day I might eat too much. I think she just worries too much, are there any potential long term health risks from me eating a food I'm allergic to?

Every time your body is exposed to an allergen it will react worse. One time will be one time too many and it will be serious with just the little bit you are eating. You would be wiser to avoid it all. If you stop now and some slip intop your diet in the future that you are unaware of you will probably still be OK, but if you continue until the reactions are life threatening adn some slips in that you dont know abotu it can kill you.

I would say not, if it is the case that you go into anaphylaxic shock when you eat this food (that is a worse case scenario where your tongue would swell) then eating small amounts will not do you any harm. The reaction you are having is your body trying to attack the histamines brought on by eating it. I have a condition whereby if i have a steep increase in my metabolic rate i suffer from anaphlylaxic shock, my doctors have suggested that making your body have a number of small mild reactions will actually mean that you are less sensitive to the effects of the allergy, this is because over time your body will build up a natural tolerance to them.

Be smart...listen to your wife. You could end up eating a small amount but it may be enough to throw you out of whack, Why take chances.....you are not going to run across the freeway or jump in front of a moving train, right? Why take a chance...you never know when your body has had enough.

Yes! Your reactions can get much worse. You wouldn't want to die, just because you wanted some peanut M&M's would you? At the VERY LEAST you should carry and Epi-Pen or 2.

She is correct, a lot of products like cookies contain peanut "crumbs" as they use the same sheets.

do what your wife says and stop being macho about it. it isnt good for you - your body doesnt like it. you keep testing and one day it will say - " youdont care - neither do I" and it will backfire on you and you're dead. honestly it's your choice, but your bod is telling you something.....listen!!!!!!
