I think it's happened to all of us at some point in our youths.

What was the reason mommy/daddy/aunty/grandma/etc. forced you to get a new look?

Thought it'd look cute?

As a punishment?

Let's hear what you guys have to say on the subject!

For some reason, my mom's employer who knew our entire family decided it would be a "nice" Christmas gift to send me to the salon for a haircut & perm. I was in the 5th grade and had gorgeous thick, brunette hair that was shiny and I always had compliments. So I had to endure this wonderful Christmas gift of the cut and perm and it came out not even collar-length and totally poofy and awful. When I went back to school after break, my classmates were astonished and could only ask, "what happened to your hair???"

Of course. Everyone's parents pretty much dictated their hairstyles until they weren't kids any longer. After that, well, moms can harp and nag and plead and whine and bribe longer and more soulfully than a two year old. Unfortunately, moms know about as much about teenage hairstyles as a two year old.

I was in the seventh grade. Twiggy was hot. My mom cut two feet off my hair the day after school was out. We fought for months before this about this cut. I started summer school the next week, no dress code, the boy behind me thought I was a boy. I felt like one and since I wasn't allowed to wear makeup, like Twiggy wore, I looked like one too. I had white blond hair when I was a child and she wanted it that color again so she home dyed it. It turned yellowy.

She laughed. She showed me a picture of her at 10, with a fresh perm her mom had given her, at home.

The hateful cycle continues. I don't have a daughter but I do have my little Lili (Bichon Frise_groomed, totally against her will.

As maximum once you're starting to be up .. your mothers and dads pay on your hair to be decrease,, so my hair became very long till i became 8yr then my mom desperate for some unusual reason to have my hair decrease and permed,,why ?? don't be attentive to because of the fact it became already curly> the saga persisted , with the reasoning that as long as they paid for my hair cuts ,,they wanted it decrease. whilst i became in severe college my dad did no longer like bangs so one night he took them and decrease them off.. how annoying that became.. he did a similar to my brothers,, whilst my teenagers have been little he wanted to trim my sons hair,, he ran!!!! .. and get this he9my dad) has long hair and refuses to diminish it..

this is going to sound crazy....but when i was younger my Mom would let me do whatever i wanted with my hair, she was a stylist and would do it for me.lenght, color, whatever she didn't care...but now that I'm older and losing hair, i still let her cut it, but now she won't let me shave it too short.

Most times i let her trim it and then have to go to a place to have them finish the job...

Well, I'm not sure if it fits under this category, but once my father decided to save money and cut my bangs himself.

...it didn't work.

They were extremely short and extremely crooked.

But I didn't care...it was 3rd grade. :)
