Sometimes, a series of good accurate answers might discourage someone from doing something they should never consider in the first place.

Sometimes I suggest they alter the animal and I also put in the link to the AKC site which explains about being an ethical and reputable breeder. If they want to breed, they are going to do it, regardless of what people say about it or tell them to do here. I can have a little hope, that maybe they will follow that link, read up on responsible breeding and then will make an educated choice as to what to do from there. Either they will realize it's way more of a time and financial investment than they are willing to do, or they will have some common sense to proceed with self educating, before taking the step towards breeding. I know, not likely, but if even just one person does, then it's worth it. Sadly, there will always be wreckless breeders out there.

Because some people just suck.
Seriously - that's the best answer I have. I volunteer at a shelter and help to rescue Pitbulls. Sometimes it's very hard. We find a home for a great shelter dog, and the next day some jerk comes in and surrenders his dog because he never took the time to do any sort of training...nor did he bother to have his dog neutered.
Until we have laws that make it too much of a risk for people to breed to supplement their incomes, this problem will continue. Did you know there is actually a sterilization PILL for dogs? They use it in Australia - yet no one here has even heard of it.
I feel your pain. But until people shape up, we will still stand by and watch dogs pay the price for their stupidity and greed. We will keep on cleaning up after others. We'll save the ones we can and we won't give up.
If you're reading this and wondering what you can do to help, please check out www.volunteermatch.org or go to www.petfinder.com and contact your local shelter about helping out.

I give information because someone asked.
You are assuming that by not answering, the people will ask their vet. This is not always the case. If they didn't ask the vet to start with, or the vet's answer was "get the dog fixed" then they may just go ahead with breeding without being educated.
I have heard of several vets who want all animals fixed and will not advise someone who wants to breed at all.
If someone is willing to ask a question, then they deserve to get a educated answer.

When people are asking questions about breeding info, they are NOT qualified to breed and therefore, need to be told to spay and neuter. Most people on here encourage this for multiple reasons - first and foremost because there are sooo many unwanted, neglected, homeless, abused, euthanized, abandoned pets (I could go on). With MILLIONS being euthanized each year because people want their dog or cat to have a litter, this is where most of these animals come from to be euthanized. Education is what these ding-dongs need, not encouragement from the cyber world to breed pets that will end up being unwanted, neglected, homeless, abused, euthanized, abandoned pets. Hopefully, instead, with encouragement from the cyber world, these people will actually be educated that spaying and neutering is actually the healthiest and best gift they can give their beloved pet.

Are you asking why people help the BYB breeders by answering their questions with actual breeding advice/tips?
I think you are. In that case, I think the answer is that while there are many of us who dislike and discourage BYB, there are apparently lots of people who do it anyway. They are probably giving the "helpful" answers.
Also, there are many people who just like to answer questions. They prefer not to judge the questions and to give the best answer they can. I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

If they have to come to Yahoo answer for answers on breeding them they shouldn't have bred in the first place. Backyard breeders cause the euthanasia of millions
http://www.adoptarescuepet.org/byb.htm
People lack research and go ahead and breed. There simply aren't enough homes. Only responsible people should breed!

http://www.brightlion.com/inhope.aspx
They are living creatures and not merchandise or toys.
If their dog is sick it should go to a vet.

Just because someone asks a queston about breeding their dog does not mean that they are not taking care of it and it's a neglected, half starved dog in the backyard tied up and was purchased for nothing but breeding.
Everyone has questions, first time or not. There's always room to learn. My dogs bred for the first time on Christmas, and although I read some websites about it, I'm sure there's more I could learn. This has always been a hobby of mine, and until now I did not have the money, or means to do it. And now I am.
And just so you know, my dog is headed to the vet here in a few weeks to check to see if the pregnancy takes.
Just because someone asks questions, doesn't mean they're are inbred, ignorant, selfish people.
So get off your high horse.

We live in HOPE....and will die in DESPAIR!!!!!!
ninthman....there are SOOOOOO many vets that really have ZERO clue about many aspects of breeding. They really have no clue about breed specific things either. That is not covered well in vet school. Most of them will never even see most of the breeds, let alone see one reproduce. And with the spay/neuter programs....they really see very few that are pregnant at all.
