boot camp! i thought this is a law-abiding country! this is a question for police officers only, if you were a police officer in san diego, and you were looking thru the fence at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in san diego, and you saw a drill instructor kick a recruit in the butt or even choking him, would you call the military police on the base or would you just smile and turn away from it? no drawn out explanations please, just one of the two answers, report it or smile and turn away?

come on "police officers", by law a drill instructor is not suppose to put their hands on a recruit.

I am a former Police Officer/Marine and I have to admit that would walk away. The reason I would do so is that I believe that training should be as realistic as possible so that you can prepare the Marine/Officer to survive in a combat situation. I would prefer any roughness to be controlled situation. Survival trumps political correctness.

I am sorry but this could not be answered in 2 words.

MCRD San Diego is federal ground and yes, I was stationed there for boot camp and would expect the law enforced officer looking through the fence to walk away and smile as it's that drill instructor that's giving the tools to protect her against her enemies foreign and domestic and a kick in the butt means nothing.

On a military post, civilian law enforcement doesn't have jurisdiction. If off base, civilian officers take custody of military members but turn them over to MP's if they are available. As far as boot camp goes; it's supposed to be tough. The military doesn't want pu$$ies, they want warriors. Killers!! The saying is "the more you sweat in training, the less you bleed in combat". Besides, what that DI allegedly did is nothing compared what would happen to you if you were captured by the enemy. Just admit it; you're a coward.

You can't answer this question in two words. The purpose of Drill Instructors is to teach recruits to obey commands instantly, without thinking about it. That will save their lives in combat. The Drill Instructor's job is difficult.

If the Marines are on the base, the civilian cops do not have jurisdiction. It is the Marine Mp's that do....so why report it?
The point of bootcamp is to break a person down, then build a stronger one. I would let them do what they do.
