I'm really scared I'm an alcoholic or something. I haven't drank for 3 nights now and I am craving it! My dad is an alcoholic and I'm starting Wellbutrin tomorrow which means I can't drink anymore anyway. What is wrong with me? Am I just bored????

It sounds like you could have inherited a tendency toward alcohol addiction. Do not drink! Becoming seriously dependent on alcohol is a nightmare. Are you starting the Wellbutrin for depression? If so the reason you've been drinking may be because you're self-medicating. You really need to discuss this with your doctor. You have to be honest. Have you been drinking heavily, daily for a long period of time? This is very important. There is a higher risk of seizures during the alcohol withdrawal period. Also Wellbutrin slightly increases the risk of seizures in susceptible people. These two things combined raise the risk even more. My friend's mom drank alot of wine everyday. She went on Zyban (the same chemical as Wellbutrin just a different brand name) to quit smoking and she quit drinking at the same time and had a seizure. I'm not trying to scare you, you just need to tell your doctor about this. You may need to quit the booze for a couple weeks before you start the Wellbutrin.

The Welbutrin is a much greater worry than the alcohol. Both will do permanent brain damage but which is worse? Probably the drug. Welbutrin and all the other psycho drugs not only do damage while you take them but when you try to get off. (they don't tell you this). I doubt you will take this advice from a stranger over the doctor or counselor who is doing this to you, so just let me warn you - when you do want to get off, do not go off too fast. Don't cut more than 10% at a time and wait 3 weeks between cuts. Even their own ads on TV say that 70% those taking psycho drugs still have symptoms (so take ours, too) - geesh! This is just a way for them to make money. It will not solve any of your real problems. Usually depression is caused from bad diet - too much sugar, refined flour and too much omega 6 oil and not enough omega 3. You really should try the diet route (which is harmless) and see if it would help, before going on these dangerous patches that just maybe make you think you are being helped. There seems to be a connection to this depression and families where alcoholism runs in the family. Perhaps the family has a gene that prevents them from converting certain amino acids properly. Have you been evaluated for hypothyroidism? That is one of many causes of depression. Probably not - the new trend is fix everything (even a little shyness) with these d* drugs - never mind worrying about the cause - they are even putting babies on them. For crying out loud people - open your eyes.

You could have crossed that invisible line. The one where one day your able to stop drinking and not pick it up to "What time is it? Time for a drink?"
Your father is an alcoholic so you have a 50% chance of being one also.
What makes you think you can't drink when you take Wellburtrin? Your not supposed to, but when it comes to being alcoholic.... well.... alcoholics do a lot of things they're not supposed to.
It's been said if you are wondering if your an alcoholic then you probably are one. Stop now if you can, if you can't seem to pull that off then seek out some help. End it before you get way out of control. Good luck!

I have never been an alcoholic but am related to a few. Stop drinking any alcohol if you can, that is what I did for health reasons. I sometimes miss the flavor of a drink but never the effects of what the booze can do to my body.
Most people respect the fact that you don't chose to drink if you politely decline and don't preach to them. Good Luck.

I drank coffee everyday for a week due to a more strenuous and early work schedule. On my day off, no coffee and boy did I want some! Its the same as any other thing you like and consume regularly. You form emotional/physical attachments through positive reinforcement. With alcohol and a family history though, you may just want to lay off the drinking no matter what.

it's boredom and/or habit to start with... alcoholism comes in time, when you feed it.

get some sunshine if you can and keep busy with other activities... especially if you are depressed (assumption because of the wellbutrin)

winter is hard on mental health... not nearly enough seratonin for most of us...

its turned into a habit but just drinking a few glasses a night even really shouldnt do that its probably in your head like your siking yourself out, but the real problem is why you started doing that?

Please don't become an alchoholic it ruins your life and trust me because it does. My grandad is an alcoholic and when he's drunk he really scares me. Keep wine out of your sight if you really crave it and just drink coca cola. God bless x
