I mean, no one in the world would run away from a spider thats ten feet away from you!

Apparently you don't know my girlfriend.. spiders scare the holy heck out of her.
And I don't think the spider was ten feet away... "it sat down beside her ".
Records from that day show that Miss Muffet had Arachnephobia (fear of spiders) and that this incident caused her to suffer from heart failure. That is why she is never mentioned again.
I have the same problem you have, and that is that simple things just drive me bananas.

I think Miss Muffet has some emotional problems and is propably very nearsighted too. Whenever she sees something that is very little and far away she tends to scream and yell her head off. JK!!!! LOL no but seriously I think she has some issures or something.

My brother suggests she's aracnophobic, but I doubt it's that extreme. He, the spider, probably just surpirsed her. Plus the rhyme says it sat down beside her.
