NO! Take it from me. That site is NO place for kids. While it's true that most of the people there may be harmless, it only takes ONE! Many of the sexual predators you see on the news use sites like My Space to find their victims. It's simply not a forum where children can be safe. And let's be honest: WHY would a 12 year old need to be on my space? I mean what IS the point anyway? The risks DO NOT outweigh the reward. Sometimes you just have to say NO. Here is some info to support my answer:

Depends. My ten year old cousin has a myspace, but he has it private and has his dad on his friends list, so he can check it out. If you're the parent, make sure the child keeps their myspace private and only adds people they actually know. And don't give out phone numbers and addresses. Basic internet safety stuff. You should be fine.

If you are the parent, I'd say yes. Just make sure you have full access to your son/ daughters account. Don't let them display any personal information like location and only allow them to "friend" people they actually know. It's really not that dangerous if you don't give out information or meet new people.
However, a 12 yearold doesn't really need a myspace and actually no one needs one. But if he/she really wants one and all their friends have one I think it's fair and safe enough.

i really don't thin its safe to go on myspace if you child is 12 years old but since when the more we don't let them do thing they want it more they can do it behind you back...so just let them have their myspace but with your supervision...if you are in this website I'm sure that you know how to use the Internet so you can check what they are doing..good luck i been there...

it depends. if i were the parent of a 12 year old i would not allow them to be on myspace. it can be a very dangerous place for sexual predators and indecent solicitors.
IF i let them have an account i would make sure that i had the passwords and i would check out their friends and log onto their account regularly to check the kinds of things that are going on. let them know that you'll be doing it and maybe it would keep their activity safe...

If they have to be 14, I'd say wait until then. But you can make their page private, so only friends and family can view it once they are added to the site. Like with any blog page there are "bots" that send messages to people with a sexy profile picture (not nessecarily porn). I don't have much of a problem with them, but then again I'm a girl. Not sure if you have a son or daughter.
Blogging can be a lot of fun. And it's a good way to keep in touch, share pictures, and so forth. Just moniter your child. Make sure you know the password too. Don't worry you aren't being over-protective. You just want him/her to be safe.

Well, I think it depends. If a parent/guardian is monitoring the actions of the child and the profile is set to private, I think it is okay. However, if the child has access to myspace when he is away from home it could be a bad thing.

I believe it is.
Make sure the 12 year old know what not to be doing on myspace. just make sure they are being safe and not giving out personal information.

no. There are too many sexual predators out there. Dateline or one of those news shows did a special on Myspace and caught a bunch of 30 year old men trying to seduce 12 to16 year old girls. Not a good idea.

No. It is one of those things that seems like everyone is doing it but really MOST people are not. There are so many other things a 12 year old can connect with that are without the risks.
