You have to learn it from history. During the old days, Great Britain got a lot of colonial possesions. It exploited the riches and resources of its colonies to sustain itself as a world power. After World War 2 the British Empire was no longer an empire, as most of its colonies gained their independence from British rule. So from then on, Great Britain has to live by its own remaining resources. Germany and Japan, both vanquished nations, had learned their lessons from the war. They realized that military might is not the solution to their country's problems. In several decades after the war, both Gemany and Japan managed to recover and eventually became economic powers. In short, both nations were losers of the military war but victors of the economic war. Both nations began to assert global influence economically and technologically. Great Britain on the other hand, haven't done much to improve its economy, and as a consequence lost its global influence. Great Britain until this time, is still trying to live on the shadows of its former might through NATO, and by allying itself and becoming a stooge of the U.S.

Poor? Are you kidding? Britain is one of the four trillion dollar super-economies of Western Europe! The London stock exchange is larger than all the European stock exchanges combined.
Britain is rolling in riches.
After the war the Germans had no choice but to rebuild their country - rubble is a great incentive to rebuild, work hard and make a better life.
The problems that Britain is facing now are more to do with immigration, integration of minorities (who don't seem to want to), cultural identity of the Brits themselves...
"Poor" is definately the wrong word to use.

Define "poor". The UK is a thriving economic player in the European Union and the world. Do they have economic challenges? Yes, as do Japan, US, Germany, Russia, etc.
Obviously, Tony Blair doesn't have to fly a commercial airliner - the UK has an air force that could be used to shuttle him around if they so chose.
Maybe you need to learn a bit more about the global economy, politics, and history before you ask any more questions.

What a totally dumb question. Tony flies on BA (the national Airline) to save tax payers money.
The great USA isnt so great either...remember those images of hurricane Katrina? When I was watching those pictures I thought I was looking at a Third World country not the GREAT US of A. Get a grip.
Your question, is rambling and nonsensical...and just a guise for racist thoughts.....busted!

Samuel, I think you are not seeing the grand picture here. UK, Poor? They have a working economy. Poor is the African and Middle Eastern countries who cannot supply clean water to their people, let alone feed or educate them.
Maybe you should focus a little energy on HELPING those who are really poor, instead of worrying about who might or might not be.

Hi Sam,
How comes the American's are so thick?
No, really - I'm not trying to be nasty, I'm just stating a fact.
When they come over here to 'poor little Britain' they walk around with their bellies hanging out, wearing stupid clothes and shouting out things like, "Gee Honey. That's swell."
Why is it Sam, that whenever we hear of a good con, it's an American that's been conned?
Apparently The Houses of Parliament has been sold 34 times this year - all to gullible American tourists.
Why do you think that is, Sam?
Why is it, Sam, that when we see a really beautiful, shapely American girl we just know that when she opens her mouth she is going to sound like a 12-year-old?
I wonder why that is, Sam?
Is it because the American's are rather thick?
Or just plain stupid?
Mmmmm?

Why do some Americans have to make their whole country look like they think they are our betters. Look at what is really going on in your own backyard first before making comments like that. All developed countries are experiencing economic problems at the present, on differing scales per population.

it particularly is obtrusive, look at our city streets, teeming with Asian and African beggars ,thieves and homeless. we remember on ex-pats in NZ,Canada and Australia to deliver us funds and nutrition parcels, with the intention to stay to tell the tale. Our muslim government insist on sending the vast majority of our national wealth to Pakistan, and India, with a great African help funds, taking tens of millions extra. because of the fact the conquest of england through the forces of the Prophet (peace be upon him) Britain has funded the conflict on the infidel worldwide huge to great effect, with many dazzling victories.

Yeah it was me who told you about our dental care and YES it is 3rd world! No I am not stalking you on here, I just laughed when I read what you just wrote about me.
SO WHAT is your problem? You don't have to live here! I doubt that the US is poorer than here, I mean its more expensive here for everything we have to pay twice as much as you do.
