I get really tired of people saying this because I've been to France and people there are nice sure I get questions about how america is handling stuff or people that tell me they don't like the government but it's the actions of the government not the people. Plus my girlfriend is French so I get a lot of idiots who say, "Oh your girlfriend must hate everything about America." How stupid is this?

Simple. The French ARE anti-American. Listen to anything Jacques Chiac spews and it is nothing but anti-American venom. The French voted for this clown so they are anti-American by association.

The idiot American thinks the US is the capital of the world (the smart ones realize its just a country). When the US wanted to invade Iraq, France (in the UN) voted No! The idiot Americans were appalled, "What? a democratic country dare express its different ideas?" This event seems to be the root of the American ideology that all French people hate the states.

It's pretty stupid, that's fer sure. Why do you let these idiots' remarks bother you - you know better and that's what counts. For the record, France remembers how we and the Brits liberated them in 1944 and drove the Nazis out. The remember it with a great deal of gratitude - the Nazi occupation was NOT a pleasant experience. Most French folks do not despise the U.S., though like many others around the world they're pretty disgusted with our national leadership (me, too).

You're right. Most French people are nice, and not all are American haters, in fact, I'd be willing to bet that most aren't. Tell your girlfriend to hang in, and unfortuantely, she's going to have to prove everyone wrong, and just show them that she speaks for the majority of the French that DON'T hate Americans. Politically speaking, France just sucks bad, sorry. You may need to just study up on some of the dumb things they have done, and who they have helped, you would be VERY surprised. The french are no friends of America, unfortunately, and this is by their own hand. They have just played too many stupid cards. Learn about them, and help your girlfriend know about them, and talk about them. Then, see where she stands, and if you both can get past it, then agree to ignore the stupid remarks of others. It does not have to cast a bad light on her, unless she agrees with her country.
