If the battery is still charged after the charger's indicator shows that the battery is fully charged and ready for use (after ~2 hrs) , the battery will not be overcharged?

The manufacturer probably recommended that length of time to make sure that when the unit is first plugged in, it will have enough time to fully charge the battery. Most rechargeable batteries are shipped fully charged, but they self-discharge over time. If the unit was on the shelf a long time, it would need the full 14 hours. If they took it from the shipping crate to the shelf and you bought it the same day, it won't take as long, but the manufacturer has no idea how long it's been setting. So, they use a minimum time for the worst-case (say on the shelf for 18 months).

Most chargers today are "smart" chargers that stop charging when the battery is full and then only provide a trickle charge to keep up with the self-discharge rate.
