Clothing..... you only go naked if it is the Emperor's reception (LOL - fairty-ale humor)

If the invitation states black-tie, then a tux for guys and formal gown for women.

If invite states cocktail party: day-wear dresses and suits or sports jackets,

If "casual" - whatever you want, but be tidy and 'decent'.

Depends on when the reception is, daytime or evening?

A conservative business suit for both the man and the woman would be appropriate for the day reception, along with a warm coat, nothing too flashy if it is out of doors.

In the evening I'd check with the protocol office for the governor. Formal wear can be worn as can cocktail length dresses or evening suits for women. Men again could wear conservative business suits or a tux.

Best to ask so that you don't come overdressed or underdressed. However NO BUSINESS causual or jeans !!!!!

Look at the small fine print on the invitation card.
Does it say the dress code for both man & ladies?
Its best for the men to wear a formal suit and jacket.
The ladies evening formal wear or cocktail dresses.
Do bring a shawl to give it a more preppy formal look if she is under dress for the reception with a small brooch to hold the shawl in place.

Have a nice recep.
