He is used as the reason for the season by some but clearly the season has nothing to do with Him.

Jesus and Christmas are one and the same for me. He's the reason for my season. It's fine to get together with family and buy gifts for each other. We are to celebrate the anniversary of His birth. However, we have to be careful to not buy into overconsumption, greed and self-centeredness. Keep the day in perspective and remember Him.

PS: Christmas is about Jesus. The pagan holiday (winter solstice) was never actually Christmas as we celebrate it. When looking for one day to celebrate Christ's Mass, this date was chose because pagans already used this day for a celebration and it was thought that they would accept this Christian holiday if it occured on an already familiar date. Also, it is the perfect time of year as the days are long and we are looking forward to light. Christians recognize Jesus as the Light of the world. So, the date may have had a previous meaning, but the meaning of Christmas itself has always belonged to Jesus. (FYI: Jesus was likely born in the summer or fall. No names were changed to "Mary" and "Jesus". No pope selected the date; it was Emperor Constantine.)

Just talking about this to my daughter the other day.

I was telling her that Christmas trees and the like only came about after Albert came to England after her married Queen Victoria.

Also

do people actually believe that Jesus was born on the 25th December 2006 years ago? I for one don't. I'm afraid to say that Sunday School in the 60's did nothing for me and did not make me want to continue to worship when I grew up and the same can be said for my daughter who went to Sunday School in the 90's.

There are people out there who are profoundly rigid in their beliefs and that is their privilege and it should be accepted.

but..........................

I'm afraid that the true meaning of Christ was lost a long, long time ago.

Just look at Jerusalem today, surrounded by a huge big wall erected by Israel where ever the highest ranking Clergy men from all faiths had to walk through a security gate.

This is the home of Christianity.

Until man can live in peace and all the religions of the world can live in harmony and tolerance then the place of God and Jesus will forever continue to slip down the table of importance to insignificance.

I believe in some schools the word Christmas Holiday has been replaced by Happy Holiday so as not to offend other faiths. Has Christianity not been offended?

Enough said.

Jesus was never really the reason for the season. It was originally a pagan holiday and the Roman Catholic church changed the names to Mary, Jesus and etc to help convert the pagans. It was a pope that picked December 25th.

Christmas was originally Christ-mass.

I'm a Christian and I don't celebrate Christmas. I celebrate Jesus all year long. I do get together with family and have fun though :)

No. Modern X-mas focuses mainly on commercialism and traditional practices that come from pagan rituals of Northern Europe and the Middle East. X-mas is suppose to celebrate the birth of Jesus, yet the Bible does'nt show any proof that Jesus was born on December 25. This date was adopted around 200 years after the Emperor Constantine declared that day to be Christs day in order to convert the heathen pagan of his time.

Jesus is the reason for Christmas. Anything else is just celebrating a holiday without Christ.

Perhaps he is the reason for some people's season but I think the majority out there (even some christians) forget the true meaning.

Well i feel Christmas has changed alot,
but at the end of the day, if Jesus did not come, there would be no such thing as Christmas

Yes to me He is.

If you take Christ out of Christmas there is nothing left.

I don't like it when the word Christmas is abbreviated to Xmas - sorry about that. It just seems lazy.
