The two cameras are the Canon Powershot A540 and the Canon Powershot A530. The A540 has 6MP and a 2.5" LCD and the A530 has 5MP and a 1.8" LCD screen. The A530 is cheaper and available now at the store, while the A540 is more expensive and not available right now and who know's when it will be. I HAVE to buy it at this one store because I will be using giftcards. The A540 also has 11 shooting modes while the A530 has 9 and the A540 has only slighter better stats.

Does the 1MP and the larger screen make much of a difference, I don't really care about the screen, its still a bigger screen that my old one.

Unless you are going to be blowing a lot of pictures up to 8 x 10 prints or larger you will have a real hard time telling the difference between 5MP and 6MP. Save some money by going with the A530 and use the savings to buy some cool accessories for the camera.

I would definitely choose the A540 because...
It has a better movie frame rate...30fps v 20fps (the more the better)
It has a larger LCD
It has an extra MP
It has a lens adapter thread (only useful if you want to add on lenses)
and the dealbreaker for me...it has aperture & shutter priority (and the A530 does not ). You can select your own shutter speed and aperture, which is invaluable if you want more manual creative control.

Well you should buy the one that fits your needs more. The megapixel difference wont matter much. Try them out and see which one you like more. If the A540 isn't available, then just try the A530 and if you it meets your needs, then buy that one.

I'm going have to say the A540 because the shooting modes make a big difference when shooting pics.

I would get the A540...I think the bigger LCD makes a big difference. The one megapixel difference not so much...
but that's just my opinion...go with whichever fits your needs...

i don't know but i just got the Olympus Stylus 730 all weather for Christmas. 3X zoom, 3.0" LCD, and 7.1 mega pixel! It...is...AWESOME! Get the one with more mega pixels.
