Many people, myself included, think about the past. That's all water under the bridge, and you cannot change it. Resist the urge to compare this relationship to previous ones and take it at face value, or you risk projecting things into your new relationship based on what happened to you in the old one.

You are not the person you were during that 3 years anymore. You are the person you are today. Be the best you that you can be, and hope that your new significant other will see past the rough diamonds to what you can be and what you have already made of yourself, unfinished though you may believe yourself to be.
