I wasn't raising kids 20 years ago, but I think my teens have been exposed to more bad things, at a younger age, than I ever was, when I was a teen. I think things that were considered sin and bad 20 years ago, are now considered normal. That is scary. As a society we are told to be "tolerant" of everything and everyone. We aren't allowed to draw a line in the sand and say NO. So I guess it is harder!

I think so, yes. I'm a teacher so I see all kinds of kids and not that there weren't problems with kids 20 years ago, but there also wasn't the technology then. Kids can see all sorts of things and be exposed to all sorts of inappropriate language and behavior before they are old enough to understand. We're also living in a society where kids are totally hooked on video games and 20 years ago they got sent out to run and play and socialize with friends...now they go home and sit in front of the TV instead of being active.
Even when parents monitor what their kids do and say, they can't be there 100% of the time and a lot goes on they don't know about....it's a scary thing and harder times right now to have a family.

I think that it definately is. I have young daughters. 20 years ago people did not worry about strangers coming into their homes and taking the children from their beds. In this day and age we don't let our children out of our sight. As a child, 20 years ago, we were free to take off on our bikes or walk a few blocks to our friends house. I am with my children nearly every minute that they are not in school, for fear that they won't come back home.

I think its about the same. My boys are 23 and 17 so they have been exposed to much of the same influences by the media, their peers, and parents as children born today. The best thing for parents to do is be consistent in how they discipline, don't give the kids everything they want, give them chores to do without being paid for them. Teach them to do laundry, sew and cook and how to pay a bill and balance a checkbook.

Yes, because now kids have more things to buy. Ipods,mp3,xbox,and things like that. More clothes and shoes. Shoes come out almost every week and kids want them. Plus the dangers of being a child. Kids getting into fights. Being pressured.

Well I don't know if it's harder. But I do know that 90 percent of the parents I've met suck at it.
Kids just need alot of attention and encouragment. And love and respect...

Yeah, because there's so many ways the outside world can get into your home what with cable, cell phones and especially the internet. BUT if you monitor those things you do all right.

I don't know. If I remember correctly, there were some pretty big problems 20 years ago: teen pregnancy, drugs, etc....

I think every generation has its problems.

yes because children can easily be spoiled today because of new electronic toys, food, etc. and because teenage girls can runaway from home and get pregnant by someone older.
