You might try looking at http://www.magickaschool.com/
It's a course on Wicca, but has a number of meditations as part of the program. The first full year is free.

What I would do though, is to get some good meditative sort of music. Perhaps "Celtic Voices, Women of Song" or things by Loreena Mckennitt or music by Windham Hill. Play it softly and just clear your mind. Too, there are guided meditations available where the music is accompanied with a vocal track to aid you in visualization.

Some exercises to do while meditating, that will help you settle down.... If you are very still, and place the pads of your fingertips together gently, you will become aware of feeling your pulse. It only works when you are quite still, and takes a bit of practice.

Try circular breathing. Breathe in through your nose to a count of four. Hold for four, breathe out for four, hold for four... repead and do this for a few minutes, concentrating on only your breathing.

One area that is a stumbling block for those new to meditation is that of other thoughts coming into your mind. That's natural at the start.... just don't dwell on them. Acknowledge that they are there, and let them go. You can deal with them later.

If you would like more meditation ideas, email me and I'll help as I can.

Obviously Geoff doesn't understand that Praying is the equivalent to talking, whereas meditation is equivalent to listening. Guess he doesn't meditate.

A simple practice is to use a candle flame to focus on, while you're doing a lot of deep (to your tip-toes) breathing. The idea is to let thoughts come and go until the mind has exhausted itself with internal chatter. The breathing will help you get out any anxious energy while the candle flame gives something to focus on.

Man...even Jesus meditated...listening is as important, if not more important than talking...

Enjoy!

Reflect on this:
A King wanted to carpet his whole kingdom so that when he walked, his feet would not get dirty. His minister told him, ‘Oh! King, why this cumbersome process. Cover your feet by wearing shoes and your feet will not get dirty’.

So change yourself. To do that, you should drop your past; you should not be imprisoned by your past. If you don’t renounce the past, it would start defining you, limiting you. That you are possibility will not open up.

Patience is an expression of the feminine energy and assertiveness is an expression of the male energy. We should balance both in our lives. We need to understand the difference between patience and laziness. Patience is alertness while laziness is dullness. Patience requires energy while laziness does not. When there is patience, alertness results. One will be available to the rising sun, gentle breeze, twinkling stars… and there is no sense of urgency to reach out, but a deep energy that allows something to be let in.
Don’t ask me how to be patient. Drop all the struggles and your attempts to be unique. Drop all the tensions that accumulate by questioning – ‘How, when and why’. Instead learn to sit silently. You will find that the whole world of the stars, moon and birds are welcoming and entertaining you. Just lie down, see the vastness of space, feel the silence in the breeze and the warmth of the earth. Being aligned to nature, allow the mysterious energy to flow into you like Himalayan springs. You will soon discover that patience is God’s gift to you. You will then develop the ability to float in the river of life.

I am only an observer and not the observed. The observer is a witness.

The witnessed is me but not the real ‘I’. Suffering exists in me and not in the real ‘I’. This is an important enquiry in Indian philosophy. The body is witnessed… so the witnessor is different from the witnessed. The mind is observed and the observer is different from the observed. Feelings are observed and the observer is the real ‘I’. So who am I? I am only an observer and to observe I must be consciousness, the awareness. This awareness has no form. If it were to have a form, it can be observed and anything that is observed is an object of perception. The subject is the real ‘I’. So the real ‘I’ has no form and hence it is formless. That which is formless cannot be destroyed. Hence, Indian mystics say the self is indestructible. This has to be experienced and can not be intellectually grasped.

• Sit in a quiet place. Just observe your thoughts. Let thoughts come and go, but don’t get identified with them. Just be a witness
• Now look for gaps between thoughts. You will see the gaps between thoughts as silence. The observer of silence becomes silence. You cannot observe silence from a noisy state. As you observe the gaps, initial thoughts may be so many that you cannot see the gaps. Soon thoughts will slow down. Then you will see gaps and experience silence
• Next observe your breath. Be conscious of every inhalation and exhalation
• Your thoughts will further slow down. See and experience the warmth of air you inhale and exhale
• Observe how inhalation turns into exhalation and exhalation turns into inhalation
• Now just become silent… without words. Experience stillness. In silence alone, true communication opens up

try to avoid any religious sites, they don't help any since meditation doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the spirit
