I am the Operations Manager at Value City furniture, and I have to say, for people on a budget, it is a great place to buy. It depends on what you are looking for of course. You wont find any solid cherry, or the more exotic hardwoods, but you will find good quality stuff, that wont break the bank.

I think that IKEA is a pretty good place to start. But IKEA is not in every region of the U.S. You also don't want to buy all furniture from there. It is usually well made, but I have heard of a few instances where things fell apart. This also mey be due to the fact that you have to assemble IKEA furniture yourself. I like to buy the floor models, that way I know that the furniture is well put together. Go to some "high end" furniture stores and see if they have discontinued or scratch and dent furniture.

Well there is Ikea but if you want really good quality and good prices hit estate sales - you get really nice stuff and it is much cheaper than retail - I have gotten things that were just a few months old and the people were moving so they sell them for next to nothing (like a $3500 living room set for only $450). You can also still find good furniture deals on Ebay but keep your selection to your area to save freight and there is always craigslist and the recycler too, my sister got a leather living room sofa set for free out of Craigslist. Good Luck!

IKEA limits you style wise. Target.com is great and people review the furniture so you know if you are ordering crap, or great quality furniture.

My whole house is rooms to go and I've never had a problem with any of it for 3 years. My budget wouldn't allow for anything else, though. Worked out fine, and lots of compliments on the stuff.
