I bought my brother a subscription to a magazine. I got the wrong magazine so I cancelled it, getting most of the amount I originally paid. I just received my credit card bill that shows the credit and it's short four cents. It's only four cents but I still feel like I need to tell someone. What are the proper steps to follow? I couldn't find anything on the magazine's web site. Should I call the company or my credit card company first?

Call the company 1st. Tell them exactly what you are saying in the question. They should take care of it from there.

The easiest way for you to resolve the matter, which honestly the fact that you care about .04 cents is ridiculous, would be to call your credit card company. They will simply credit that amount to your account and you can be done with the matter. Don't bother to call the company you will then have to wait sometimes 7-10 business days for them to process their credit transaction batch with their acquiring bank. Your credit card company will simply write it off as a loss to get you off the phone and on to more important issues.

If you really want to nitpick, you should first contact the magazine and tell them they shorted you. If they won't do anything, you can contact your credit card company and provide them with the document where they promised you the full credit and let the credit card company go back to the magazine on this.

Obsessive-compulsive are we?

It is four cents. Nobody cares besides you!
