Yes it is very possible to do this but extremely dangerous and not taught to people usually that are not at least Masters (Godan 5thdan and up). To my knowledge. I know it but I have 28 years in it with several styles with rank and would be a 5th Dan had I stayed with one style all those years but i did not. I will eventually see it in Shotokan for I am staying where I am now having learned as much as I want to for the moment.
Your answer is most definately YES, but do not try to learn it or attempt to do it on anyone, you could kill them and it is not hard to do when applied properly but even experts can make mistakes or lose against the odds and they never wake up.
Dont do it is all i can suggest until you reach a level of Mastery in MA, 5th Dan or higher IMO.
PS to the gentleman below, any well trained MA that knows the technique will have you grappled or near incapacitated or take you by suprise before trying. No real MA would attempt a technique on a fresh opponent, so sure I would try right after I had you so you could not move a muscle grappled into a knot on the floor and then would apply the technique and you would not be able to stop me unless you were able to prevent me from incapacitating you. They are not moves you generally use as I said on fresh opponents and I am not referring to DIM MAK, just regular old fashioned pressure points with no Chi or Ki.

I think you pretty much have every available answer to this except a good summary. SO, allow me to sum up for ya...
The idea that you can poke someone on some magical pressure point and knock them out is a myth as far as I have EVER encountered. Of course, some "points" are more prone to injury than others and some "points" are basic weak spots on the human anatomy. So, it is possible to HIT someone on a spot like the carotid sinus (think JUDO CHOP from Austin powers) at the correct angle and with enough force to knock them out. It is also possible to hit someome at the correct angle and with enough force on the CHIN and do the same thing.
I have encountered certain things that my brain says should not happen though. Like Gregory said above, it has been PROVEN that nerve strikes do work. Now using them in combat is usually a LOT harder, so I'm not sure about the applications they have in a fight. I personally prefer the methods that I have used myself and found to be effective.
So, like most other things, it is possible, it's just very difficult and highly unlikely it would work in any kind of combat situation...unless, of course, you are a Ninja and can already jump backwards into tres and such...
Hope this helps...

Yes, but there is also a 33% chance that they will not wake up. I believe this forum would be a wrong place to share the specifics of the move. But yes, there is a technique that can render someone unconcious with only the use of a pressure point. The art is called Dim Mak, and it is Chinese. Though I am sure there are variations in other arts and military training. But it is far too risky and dangerous to do in a "street fight". It is something reserved for military ops and life threatening situations.

In a 1999 report in the Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness, C. Terry et al tested a dozen participants in a demonstration of kyusho jitsu pressure-point techniques intended to produce "knockouts." Experts hit the volunteers with successive blows at prescribed spots, e.g., just above the right wrist, just above the right elbow, and in the middle of the back. The recurring result: a "period of unresponsiveness" lasting from 11 to 55 seconds. The tests, which included EEGs and the like, showed no loss of blood flow to the brain or other obvious physiological cause.

Yes and no. There is no lightning fast way of doing so reliably. You can hold a spot on the carrotoid artery, or other places and you opponent will pass out but they will wake up not long after.
As for the pressure-point strikes that you see on tv, no. When you see masters doing them they are practicing on their students or on "believers" (people who believe they are about to be knocked out). There have been many studies, newsreports and "mythbusting" teams who have researched this. Basically if you aren't convinced that you are going to be knocked out by this flurry of brushes, you won't be.
If it were true, the practitioners could prove it on chimpanzees. With bodies almost identical to our own and no understanding of the technique the chimp would be the perfect test.
There have been masters who have entered fighting arenas claiming that they could put anyone out. All of these boasts have ended in the masters attempting, failing, and losing their bouts.
Pressure points are good to know, but they are not as powerful as some would have you believe.

Yes, you can.
And somebody doesn't have to be 'just standing around' to allow it. There are martial artists that teach pressure point fighting as an art or as an extension to your art.
FYI, pressure points are not required to be only 'hit', they can be manipulated in other ways, too.
Look up Professor Dillman online and if he's got a school near you go check it out. He's got a WEALTH of knowledge and is a great dude.

Yes. But even then it would need a lot of pressure like the cranial nerve that is behind the jaw.

Gee people still believe in martial arts fairy tale? Why the hell do people think martial arts are suppose to be something graceful, beautiful, and harmony?
Sorry to brust your bubble, but... The truth is all those "gentle catch and release" type are the perfect type to get you killed. If you want to learn something effective, you have to look into the real world. When it come to reality, fights are always ugly, brutal, and cruel.
Now to answer your question, yes you can make someone fall asleep (actually unconsicous) by applying a choke. It's not possible to done this by touching unless it's a massage.

Sleep...no, Unconcious, yes, and it may be lethal. These types of pressure points are located near the head or neck.
