I don't know where you live so I can't advise you about the legal requirements for keeping medical files. Here where I live, they are obliged to keep medical records for 25 years...
Since you can't seem to get the records, you might want to find out what the law is because you may have legal recourse...which would pay for your studies...hmmmmmm!
As for the university requiring your medical records, first off, I don't know why they would be entitled to such information, but if they are and you can't get the records as you say, I would definitely get it in writing from your pediatric doctor to confirm to the University that you are not holding anything back from them but are in fact, unable to do what they are requesting.
Is the medical record necessary for you to be admitted? If so, you may want to just send the records you have from the new doctor you've been seeing since the age of 18. If that isn't sufficient, you may want to accept taking a medical exam and evaluation from a doctor of the university's choosing. I'm not certain the university is allowed access to your juvenile medical records.... That's definitely something I would look into.
Good luck.... and stay in school... it pays!

First of all a university has no right to your medical records. Second I find it hard to believe your records were destroyed. If you changed doctors your most important info was no doubt forwarded to your new doc and lastly everyone is given a record card of their immunizations which is what the school is no doubt looking for anyway and if you have lost that you should have been more responsible in the first place.

Check with your former high school! I bet they have a record of your vaccines.
BEWARE-do not over vaccinate yourself hon! Some vaccines are pure poison! Some have mercury-flu, tetanus and don't mix any like MMR, mixing is hard on your immune system. You may be able to sign a paper stating it's against your religion to have more vaccines. This is what I did for my daughter-she had an awful reaction to her vaccines and NO ONE would help us. After that I said, no more!
There's vaccine court (DR's fail to tell you about this) for people who've been hurt or killed by vaccines. If you die your family gets $250,000. that's it. That's the top pay. My daughter will have to suffer her entire life and we didn't get a dime...long story-Please Beware.
Educate before you vaccinate

It is illegal to destroy medical records without following certain guidelines. They probably have the records, just don't want to search for them... But when you started seeing the family practice, they should have requested your old records or at least a copy of them... And if they had decided to destroy them they should have sent you written notification prior to destroying them..

It is very unusual that a doctors office would distroy records. They usualy archive them somewhere. I would call the office back again to verify that info. If that is the case I would have them write a letter addressed to your university explaining the situation.

your records have been burned. they no longer exist. tell you contact at the university the real situation. be diplomatic. if that doesn't work hire a lawyer, initiate a suite, then go to another college. if they are that prickish you shouldn't want to be there. it will be that way with all adminsistrative matters. march down to you dean and lay it on the line. a letter from you old doc would make it a little easier if you are shy. me, i would kick the damn door down and drag somebody down the hall by their hair. kick fanny.

They better find them, medical records are to be kept for 30 years. I'd threaten with a lawyer and I bet they turn up, if not follow through!

it is strange to me they would destroy your records like that. usually they keep them for years. unless you have a childhood illness like cancer at one time or juvenile diabetes you should be able to go on with this new Dr and begin a new medical record and not need any old information on inoculations as a child and etc. i am sorry this happened.

Tell your doctor that your former pediatrist destroyed the records. He will have less background information to work with, but that won't prevent him from treating you.
