I have used many brands, including Nike, Adidas, New Balance, Asics, and Mizuno. Fom my experince i can tell you that nothing holds up better than an Adidas shoe, but their weight is a setback. I was extremly disappointed with my New Balances as they lacked duarblikity, but the cushining in them was nice while it lasted. The nikes were also a slight disappointemt, only bring 150 pds and a size 12 foot, the larger "shox" were to stiff to noticeably cushion my running style and their wiehgt was also a negative. Although i hear the Air Max 180's and 360's have a lower compresion, and are lighter. I have yet to try them. This leaves Asics and Mizuno. Asics are porlly the best overall shoe as far as durablility, comfort, weight, and responsiveness goes. i own two sets of Gel-Kayanos that i alternate, both have Sof-Sole Athletes-Plus insoles and weight apx. 14 oz each. the only negative on them is the price. 139.99 MSRP. Then The Mizunos. WOW where do i start. I have a set of Wave Rider 10's. These are RACEY, SLEEK, SEXY, SUPERLIGHT shoes. with a set of Sof Sole Stable-Trac performance insoles, a combination that weighs just under 8oz a shoe is born. This pair weighs about as much as one Kayano. The cushning is there too, as i cant tell a difference from the asics to the mizuno. The price is where the Mizuno really exceeds though, i got the wave rider 10s for 84.99 a sweet deal just for the weight alone. Mizuno durablility is also noticeable, as with many of their other products. But if you have to settel for a cheaper pair of nikes, adidas, or NB, the best upgrade you can make is the insole. since i overhauled all of my running shoes with sof Sole insoles, my feet and knees are nearly painless even at the end of a five mile run thanks to their cushinig and supportive properties. Hope this has been helpfull to you.

I used to run alot with New Balance shoes, but a couple months ago I bought a pair of Asics and I am extremely pleased with this pair. It's the most comfortable shoe that I've worn for running. There is plenty of cushioning around my ankles, good arch support, and as I'm running I can definitely feel a difference in how soft the shoe hits the ground. I run about every other day for about 3 miles and I love my Asics. I would highly recommend them to you.

Mizuno is the best manufacturer for light and durable. Try to find wave revolver from 2 years ago. Best shoe ever. Adidas and new Balance are too heavy. Nike is pure junk.

I have to put my plug in for Asics Gel-2110 (or whatever the current model number is in the 2000 series).
I've been running in that model line for 13 years and they are muy comfy. Very cushioned. Stable. Comfortable.
Almost everyone (except for one) that I've turned onto these shoes like them as well.

i would have to say the nike air max 360. that's the lightest running shoe nike has, and that's what i use. it's pretty comfortable, and really light, it might even take a few seconds from your run!
and if you have an ipod, you might want the nike + ipod sport kit. it's awesome! you can track your run while being pumped up by the music!
hope it helps. >_<
