The Air Force does not teach hand to hand combat in basic training. The only people who are taught hand to hand combat are, special forces and cops. Since they are the only ones who will ever get into those situations. Also, the hand to hand combat taught in the Air Force is nothing like what the Army or Marines teach in basic.
Sorry but the Air Force is mostly in the rear with the gear.

I don't remember hand to hand combat in bootcamp. I remember dfp's, shooting M-16's etc. Well I was a cop in the airforce. I trained with the army, and have done hand to hand combat. If you are not a cop or special forces in the airforce, it is like an outide job. Cops are deployed 8 months at a time, and are going to be deployed 12 months at a time soon. Before you deploy, you train on various things, depending on your deployment.
UPDATE: Ok, week 3 of the basic training you will be taught self defense. The basic has changed since I have been, 2 years ago. It is continuing to change as well. You have a 7 week training, but week one is considered 0 week. You will be called the "rainbows" because you have civilian clothes.

Start running. In boot camp you have to be out of bed at 5 AM, dressed, bed made and in formation in 3 minutes. You then have to jog a mile and a half and do exercises. Also research the field you want to go into while in the Air Force and get an idea of where you would like to be based. If you want to serve close to home, then check out what jobs the nearest bases specialize in. If you want to travel and be adventurous, look at bases overseas and what jobs the bases there have, such as flight line crew chief and support ops. Also, make friends with a current airman and ask what the first year is like and what changes you can expect. Good luck

The Air Force has training? I lost 11 one night to their splendid training. Shoot first, identify later! I suspect it's on par with the Army and the Navy. They never intend to get close enough to actually have to use hand to hand combat skills.

they try to break your habit of having your hands in both your pockets, air force people have a difficult time with this habit. you can't defend yourself with your hands in your packets...
