There is never gonna be a draft but THAT VERY FACT IS THE ACHILEES HEEL FOR AMERICA.
Russia has conscription (mandatory service)
China maintains huge numbers of infantry.
America must catch up. America over invested in technology and has far little troops.

My answer is more "old school" as I served in the military back in 1974. I believe all young men in women should serve a minimum of two years in the military. Anything over that should be up to negotiation. Our military would be stronger if the draft was mandated. I think young people have too much freedom and as an act of patriotism every American should contribute some of their time defending our nation.

utilizing the present medical criteria a lot of them does not be medically qualified. only a short evaluate of lots of the questions in this communicate board appropriate to medical historic previous and health circumstances will coach that's authentic. There are over 2 hundred circumstances that may disqualify someone from military service. The link decrease than incorporates those criteria in financial ruin 2. I performed physicals for both enlistment and the draft for the period of Vietnam. And our youthful adult males are in a lot sorrier structure as we talk. the single saving grace replaced into the actual incontrovertible truth that basically 6% of eligible draftees ever donned a uniform for the period of that era. because, unlike Czechoslovaks, they did not experience any favor to serve. for sure, we under no circumstances had armed tanks of a overseas power rolling down Pennsylvania street in Washington like those of the Soviet Union rolling with the help of Wenceslas sq. in Prague.

I'm not. I would apply for CO status as a Quaker.
BTW, why do we need to keep pace with other nations? Technology I can understand, but military?
Oh, a note: Matching China would require a very sizable chunk of our population.

The great thing about a draft is you don't have to be ready and willing, that's why it's a draft, you go when they say you whether you like it or not. Those who really are ready and willing, already joined.

Sorry, forcing people into military service against their will is a violation of the 13th Amendment. Bloated military-industrialized countries will always be dependent on war, and so they must create wars. Civilizations built on peace and diplomacy will never need to fight wars because they will never need to create enemies. The only justifiable war is a defensive one, and forced induction into the military and the institution of a war-based society will NEVER bring about the prosperity that peace can bring. When will you silly humans learn that cooperation is better than competition?

Well, I don't have the exact numbers, but, it's a record pace the recruiters are setting, including my son who joined two years ago. He is now a maintenence chief on a KC-10 refueler.
Now, what are YOU doing to keep the freedom to troll alive? Eating Cheetos and sparking a bone?

I have a terrible feeling that once world war 3 gets going, we are all going to find out just how few people want to be drafted to fight in a meaningless war, which could easily have been prevented.

There will never be a draft because the military doesnt want it. Drafted soldiers arent as good as normal soldiers. its a fact, not my opinion.
