I'm using Windows 2000, and I have several unwanted programs starting when my computer starts. They are not in the start menu, and I went with regedit and removed some, but there are still others that I don't see there.

I'm not so familiar with 2000(it was a while ago) but I think the only way to fix your problem is to have a program to do it for you. I have spy sweeper which has a start up guard and I can choose which programs will start when I start my computer

Go to Start, Click Run, type in MSCONFIG and click OK. You will see a tab that says StartUp. Click it and it will list all programs that automatically run when you start your computer. Remove the Check mark from the beside the programs you do not want to run at startup.

Go to add/remove programs and uninstall them. Most of these programs should have a setting in them that says auto start.

Go into each program's properties and there should be an option to not have it start when you log into Windows.
