you need to get a crate and crate train him. He needs to be taken out every 1/2 hr or so for the next couple weeks. Make sure to praise him when he goes. If he doesn't go outside put him back in crate until he will. Search crate training lots of good sites to explain. An 8 week old puppy should not be left to just roam. He's going to see your house as a really big place that is begging him to poop on it. You really can't expect good progress until puppy is 4-6 mos old. or in very small dogs cases maybe never they are very hard to train.

The Yorkie is too young to paper train completely . And he's still too young to go outside especially in winter.
The smaller the dog the more times they have to go potty. The best thing to do is watch them. Dogs will usually start sniffing around when they have to poop. You can then pick it up and put it on the paper and keep it there til it poops. When it does give it lots of love and attention. Tell him what a good dog he is. Dogs want to please humans so this will help him to know you are happy when he goes on the paper. You will have to do this many times before the dog understands what it's supposed to do. Just be patient. If you yell at him or hurt him he won't trust you and the problems will get worse.
If you are away from home for more than an hour put the dog in a kennel so he won't go all over the house. Be sure to add food and water if you'll be away for more than 2 hours.
Also small dogs can be trained to use a litter box and that may end up being a better solution for this one.
Also in winter a small dog needs a sweater to keep warm and booties to keep their feet from freezing or getting salty. If your dog's feet get salty wash them off or they will lick off the salt and get sick.
Good luck with your dog!

I got my yorkie when he was 8 wks as well, when I brought him home he was already paper trained but that didn't last long! He decided he wanted to go all over the house so I decided to start taking him outside. He did okay but everyone I have met with a yorkie has told me that they are awful to potty train! If I could do it all over I would have started taking him outside from day ONE! Also try hanging a bell on a string around the door knob that you use when you take him out and ring the bell everytime you go out. This will teach him to ring the bell when he needs to go! Good Luck!

puppies pee/poop when they wake up from a nap, after they eat AND after they play. my puppy was pretty well trained when she was bout 12 weeks (shes a bigger breed tho) and she pooed up to 4 times a day...!! but its slowed to 3... to 2 times a day now she is 20 weeks old. and keep him in only a few rooms, so he doesnt use your house and a big training pad. GOOD LUCK

no, it's not too early but don't let him have the run of the house until he's housebroken. Keep him confined to areas that are easy to clean, kitchen, etc. I would only take him in other rooms when I could watch him carefully. Always let him go as soon as he wakes up from naps or first thing in the morning and right after he eats. He will get the hang of it.
good luck!!

Go to Walmart and look for some blue puppy pads to train him on,they work.I used them on every dog my hubby brought home. This also trains them to go find paper in case of an emergency.I trained my puppies in the restroom at first, then took they product to one spot in my yard to train for the out of doors.Works like a charm, remember they have small bladders when they are small, so give them the chance often.Hope this helps....
