My dog has had diarrhea for a couple months, he eats good and everything else seems normal except for he has a skunky smell. It all started when the store was out of the Purina DogChow that I usually feed him, I had to buy Purina Kibbles and Chunks, and thats when the diarrhea started. I thought it would get better when I got his normal food back but it still hasnt. Does anyone know something that would help me before I call the vet??

It is because of the sudden changes in his diet and it has his stomach upset. Purina, Kibble and Bits...Purina in my opinion is a horrible dog food, you should try getting him a better food. Look at the site I listed for best dog food. The 6 star rated foods are for performance dogs because they are so high in protein. You can try giving a few tsp of the 100% pure canned pumpkin to help firm his stool or offer him a tbsp of plain yogurt to him, it is like a probiotic and should help him adjust to the new food. A diet should be switched slowly with his old food mixed in and since you couldn't get his old food this why he is having these problems, probably. Is your dog neutered? What breed and how old? Is his stool mucousy or bloody? Going to the vet just to get his stool checked for worms may not be such a bad idea. Is he acting normal...normal appetite and playful?

Try plain white rice and hamburger meat for awhile. This seems to 'reset' dog's digestive systems - especially beagles (you DO have a beagle, right? I'm guessing by the screen name).

I'd try this before I went to the vet. Whenever our beagles (we have 2 of them) have digestive issues, this is what we use and it's always worked for us. Once things settle down, you can go back to Dog Chow.

PS - we feed ours Science Diet food and haven't had trouble since we switched to it. It might be worth a try!

How long ago did you switch back to your old diet?
Is the diarrhea bloody, or does it have a strange color?
It may be that he was acclimating to the new food, then you changed him back to his old food and he's re-acclimating to that. I still say to contact the vet and let them know.

u need 2 just call the vet immedietly b4 anything gets worse dont wait any longer bcuz then ur dogs probably going 2 hurt from it if u let him stay with the diareeha longer so i would just call the vet bcuz they know wat 2 do and if ur dog still has diareeha after 3 months, its probably not the food change bcuz u already switched him back and dogs dont have diareeha that long from just this problem
