I have been at many stoplights on my motorcycle where the stoplight never detected my presence. If I am trying to turn left and don't get a green light after a number of red/green cycles, what am I supposed to do?

verify you have run over the sensor pad, and rev the moter a little when you do.
report all malfunctions to the local and state traffic comtroller.

then either turn right - then u turn if possible or slowly run the light.

If pulled over let the officer know you have reported this and other lights as malfunctioning. Get problem ticket numbers or contact names when you report them.
If enough of us report these d** things the road crews will reset the sensor pads for bikes. If they do not - well they get paid to hear the complaints after all you pay road taxes on your bike.

In fact in VA they request we report this kind of problem and it is listed in the operator instruction manual.

It depends a great deal on the legal jurisdiction where you ride. In some jurisdictions, it is legal to run the red light, when it is safe to do so, for bikes and motorcycles when the light would otherwise remain perpetually red. Only do this if you are sure it is legal where you live.

However, there are usually other options. Most traffic light systems in North America use a magnetized strip under the pavement. These can often be seen by noting tar lines on the road's surface. If you make sure to stop your bike right on one of these lines (with the engine - not the wheels - right over a line) you should trip the sensor and the light will change.

1) if there is a walk signal, and im hte only one, then i put my bike in neutral, walk over to the light and hit the signal button (if tis reasonably near)

2) in some states, you are allowed to go on red if after some time (reasonable) it doesn't change for you. Check with your laws or just call the DMV. REasonable in most states is about the time it goes through two cycles without changing green for you (about 4 minutes)

Stoplights where I am are timed. I've never heard of a streetlight that pays attention to the vehicals. You might have to call the city to fix the light. Maybe the internal clock is broken or jammed.

I have the same problem. I just run the light and hope if I get pulled over the cop will understand.

Make sure there are no cops around and proceed with caution is all you can do. You can't sit at the light all night buddy!

Follow the law and sit at the light until it turns green. You can't just break laws because you feel like it. The laws are for everyone.

wait for the straight green and turn, most cops will understand and if they don't the judge probably will
