I am doing a polaroid guest book for my wedding. I have a camera, but it gives me the pictures in a perfect square with the big white bottom. Is there a different kind of polaroid film that I can buy where the picture is more rectangular with the white space on each side?

The only polaroids I know of that did not come in the format you are used to seeing are the ones used for test shots on the backs of medium to large format cameras.

This is far outside the realm of consumer photography and not suitable for your wedding. The only polaroid format you have at your disposal is the one you know of.

You can use a Land camera ( http://www.rwhirled.com/landlist/landhome.htm ). Its an old Polaroid camera that uses type 669 film. It has a quarter inch white border all the way around. But it is an older film that you have to peel the layer off after a minute and then let dry. Not the ideal thing to have at a wedding.
Polaroid did have a type 600 film that allowed you to pop out the image part with about a quarter inch border. I didnt' see that one listed on Polariods website on a quick search.

I haven't heard of any. The reason for the big white the bottom is that in the undeveloped film/paper, the liquid chemicals are sandwiched in that area. After the shutter snaps and the motor rolls the picture out, the picture gets squooshed between two rollers, which action expresses the chemicals into the perfect square to develop the image.

If you're hiring a professional photographer or if you have a knowledgeable friend taking pictures, you might ask how your project can be squared with what is available.

I think so, but you may have to get a different polaroid camera. At one time they made a poloaroid captiva which held the photos in a slot until you took them out. They were more rectangle I believe and looked like a tradtional print (no white edges). That was a long time ago. No telling what they have available now. Go to a camera store (not Wal-Mart, Best Buy or Circuit City) and ask a salesperson.

the previous post nailed it, only professional polaroid backs for medium and large format cameras can print rectangular shaped images. The consumer level polaroid cameras pretty much all print squares.
