My cat won't leave me alone! At this moment, she is sitting on my lap and every time I put her down on the bed or something, she jumps off and follows me. Why is she doing this? She can't be lonely because her brother was adopted along with her and they are always playing and sleeping together. She also got spayed three weeks ago, so it can't be that either. Something that she does that really annoys me is that she is always trying to come inside my room, she meows, and meows outside my door all night!

BTW, she is only nine months old; we've had her since she was three months.

Because cats are nocturnal? Cats are awake during the night and I don't want her jumping up and down on me.

Like most of the posters said above, your cat is probably clingy because she was weaned or taken away from mama too early, and she will grow out of it sooner than you will "secretly like", as another poster so aptly put it. In fact, by the time you get used to her "clingyness", she will probably be close to outgrowing the needy behavior.

When my female cat was a kitten, she would knead painfully at my face and lick (with her sandpaper tongue!) and bite at my lips, nose and eyelids----- all night long-- for the first eight months of her life! She was obviously weaned too early (I got her from the pound, so I didn't know her history at the time of adoption).

I thought I was going to lose my mind at first, so I ended up closing her out of my room.. for 3 hours or so. The meows got only got worse and I realized that she just needed love from me, so I let her back in.

As time went by, I grew so used to the nocturnal facials that I didn't even wake up completely during them (and I'm a light sleeper!). As she grew older and more secure in my love for her, she stopped this bizarre behavior in lieu of just sleeping on or near me.

She's almost 6 years old now, and I don't know how I'd get through the night without my "best friend" snuggling up with me. I'm so glad I didn't shun her due to her needy behavior as a kitten. Just be happy that she loves you so much! Show her that you love her, too, so that she can become more confident/secure..

Your kitty is young and loves you, you are the hand who loves her and makes her safe. Let her follow you around but and get in your room, as long as she can get out and knows how to use a litter box. If you don't want her on your lap, then push her off right away, if she keeps trying you keep pushing away. If she can be on your lap and not get in the way then let her but son't pet her if you are busy with something else. She is also trying to get dominate lap time with you as oppossed to her brother. She will either start to grow out of it and get more independent or you will ahve to get strict with her. Don't ignore her brother too, let him have lap and petting time equal to his sister. Don't let her manipulate herself to the "favorite" position.
Good luck with them.

You should be happy that she loves you so much. But I know it can be annoying once in awhile. My oldest cat is like that with my mother. She always has to be near her, she will only let my mother hold her and pretty much touch her, she pretty much stalks her around the house lol.

sounds like your cat was taken from her momma to early. And having surgery like that she's kind of insecure. She sees you as her momma now. I know it can be annoying but she will eventually grow out of it. It's kinda like having a baby around. She needs extra attention right now.
Some cats are really independant but others are really affectionate. Most of them love us humans that's why we keep having them as pets.

Cause your cat loves you, be greatful, my kitty dont like to be touched, he dosent like to be petted or anything, he bites you ( or anybody, for that matter ) if you try to pet him, hes sociable, he likes to be in the same room with me & follows me around too, but hes just not an affectionate kitty, & I wish he was.

Why don't you just let her in your room at night? She'll soon find a place to sleep that suits you both. I'm sure she's not that annoying.

She sounds lovely by the way.

She's seeing you as a source of comfort, you're her master. Period. Because of that, she wants to be with you a lot. Sounds like a very affectionate cat to me. She may outgrow it as she gets older but she may not, no one can really say. You should count your blessings though to have her, so many cats aren't like that and the owners wish they were. Personally, I love that both of my cats like to be with me. They don't have to be on me per say, but they are ALWAYS near me. I love it!!

You have so to speak become the alpha. The cat sees you as the provider and caretaker.
In simple terms you are mom or dad, the cat loves you and will attach herself to you. Don't stop it. cats like that are nice to have.

SHE LOVES YOU! and sounds like the perfect kitty. Just let her be in your room, near you, even if you don't let her be ON you. She will feel less insecure with time and learn that she doesn't need to be so close to you.
