Now that white Eastern Europeans have stepped up and taken control of the heavyweight division (they won't last long), I'm amused at the bleating from certain idiots about how great they are and how american boxing is on the decline.
The irony is that these boxers would never have gotten to that point if they had not incorporated American training methods into their regimen.
In the lower weight classes, good fighters like Joe Calzhage, Edison Miranda (a real monster) and Ricky Hatton are making a name for themselves, and the way some people talk, one would think that American boxing is finished.
Not so. America is, always has been, and always will be the proving ground for any fighter worth his (or her) mettle. They have to make a name for themselves here; we have the best competition, the best promotions, the best networks, the best everything.
And that's what people can't stand, the fact that America has the best of everything, so, in that sense, I understand the jealousy.

ribafish - I knew you'd fall into this trap.
Only American national anthems before fights? Excuse me? What fantasy planet are you living on? Before any international boxing event staged in the USA, the anthems of both countries are always played. Don't believe me? Tune into any international event staged by HBO, the best boxing network in the world.
If you're going to talk sh*t, at least get your facts straight first, genius.
As far as the behavior of boxing fans goes, I recall the ones booing the loudest at the Holyfield/Lewis draw were the AMERICAN fans, at the same as AMERICAN fight announcer, Jim Lampley, was announcing that Lewis was robbed.
At the same time, I recall Marvin Hagler not being able to receive his belt in the ring, as he was too busy ducking bottles and other debris hurled at him by British fans after his destruction of Alan Minter in England.
If my statement about the best of everything being in the USA is stupid, tell me why, don't just call me names.

Otherwise you look very foolish indeed. No stretch for you.
I don't even respect your boxing knowledge, because you have none. That's always very apparent every time you open your big mouth on this forum.
Now go back and salivate over those pictures of the Klitschkos you have pinned up over your bed.

Don Trollio - the name suits you.
Very seldom have I encountered someone talk as much sh*t as you just have, without backing it up or having their facts straight.
How is Ali a degenerate? Or Frazier? Or Rachman? Or Roy Jones?
The NBA has the best basketball players in the world. Period. The best women's soccer team, once led by the great Mia Hamm, is right here in the US of A.
Give the mens' game enough catch up time, and it'll eventually be a world beater, too. But, ultimately, who cares? In my opinion, soccer is a game for hooligans and degenerates, anyway. Never been a fan of the game myself.
On which planet does MMA (a terrific sport in its own right) outsell boxing? The biggest selling ENTERTAINMENT event, encompassing music, boxing, MMA etc was the second Tyson/Holyfield battle.
As terrific as MMA is, it has a lot of catching up to do. More than a century's worth.
