It varies. Really.....almost anything is normal here. Some moms get their periods back pretty early. Others may find that their periods return shortly after the time they start solid foods. Some moms may go a year or more! And some might not get a period until after they are weaned.
With my first, my period returned at 10 mos postpartum.
With my second, my period returned at 9.5 mos.
With my third, my period didn't return until 16 mos postpartum.
Night nursing is a big key in keeping your fertility away.

Some women never have their periods when they are breastfeeding but some get their periods back after a few months--even when they are still breastfeeding--I am not sure why this is the case but it happens---this does not mean that the woman should stop breastfeeding--if they get their period back--but it does mean that she can get pregnant again-(actually--not having a period during breastfeeding does not guarantee that you will not get pregnant--things could be happening without your technically getting a period)--also--the breastmilk taste changes--probably because starting your period again changes your body's hormonal system--so the baby may react--
4-6 months would be my guess...

I got periods back as soon as the baby started skipping 2 nursing sessions. 14 months-16 months. I had no signs of ovulation until my kiddos ate any solid food. The heavier the nursing the longer the periods stayed gone.

For me, it was only 8 weeks. Definitely not long enough! I breastfed for 9 months, so I was having periods almost the entire time I was breasfeeding. This was exactly the same for both children.

If you breastfeed exclusively (no bottles at all) you can expect to get your period after about 6-7 months. (I did)

Depends on diet, frame of mind, attitude...lots of things. But whatever the timeframe, it isn't long enough.
